The wow factor as I walked into the sumptuous lobby of the Governor’s Room in the heart of the Exhibition Place is high.

This is not just any room, it is a lavish, opulent and enormous ballroom. I proceeded through the enormous ornate wooden doors.

Upon entering, I was warmly welcomed by a lovely lady who handed me an empty wine glass and my journey started.

With such an enormous amount of samples offered, I was overwhelmed at first but became very enthused with the idea of trying new products, perhaps unusual blends or even items on my “to try before I die wish list”.

Armed with a meticulously organized booklet provided by the Profile Wine Group, I devised my plan. In order to beat the crowds, I studied the list of producers, their table locations and the samples offered. I eliminated wines that I had already tried and focused on a few special bottles.

As to be expected, I ended up trying quite a few samples and I discovered some stunning wines. Some of my favorites included the 2012 Montes’ Purple Angel,  Somerston’s 2013 “Priest Ranch” Grenache Blanc, Dominio del Plata’s 2013 Crios Torrontes, J. Bouchon’s 2013 Carménère Block Series, Famille Picard’s 2012 Chassagne Montrachet, Pierre Sparr’s 2013 Gewurztraminer Reserve, Bersano’s 2014 Arneis, Castello di Quesceto’s 2009 Romantic as well as their 2011 Vin Santo, Tenuta Rocca’s 2014 Barbera, Vigneti del Vulture’s 2013 Pipoli Aglianico del Vulture.

Merci Profile Wine Group for this awe-inspiring tasting!
