Reviews and Ratings

Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Love this style of Marlborough Sauv Blanc, crafted from grapes grown in the Waiaru and Awatere Valleys. Multi-award-winning, made using cool-fermentation in stainless steel to optimize those beautiful fruit flavours. Starts with fresh citrus and passionfruit on the nose, then the palate explodes with tropical fruit, green bean and herbal notes. Crisp, lip-smacking acidity and lingering flavourful finish. My fav with Chicken Alfredo or grilled garlic shrimp.
Tasted September 2017 with Thornbury's winemaker, Simon Fells.
Melanie Lloyd - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

This is a well made dry wine with aromas of passionfruit, lychee, as well as mineral notes. On the palate, it is crisp and tart with citrus flavours. Very enjoyable! Tasted September 2017.
Cherie Cole rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

The 2016 growing season started off cool with in injection of an Indian Summer, which led to perfect ripening conditions. This award-winning Sauvignon Blanc from The Wairau and Awatere valleys in Marlborough is bursting with passionfruit, lemon, green bean and fresh herbs. Bright and crisp, it has a long, citrus and tropical fruit finish. Pair with cold seafood salad. Tasted September 2017.
Rachelle O'Connor rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

This award winning wine was produced with grapes from the Wairau and Awatere valleys - these two areas are the prime location for outstanding Sauvignon Blanc and this vintage was no exception. As Simon puts it "Wairau fruit gives richness and weight, while fruit from the cooler Awatere area is famous for its finesse and minerality". The color is pale straw with a greenish hue, there is an abundance of citrus, passionfruit, lemon, grass and herbs. Delicious!
Simon Chen rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

This is a single vineyard Sauv Blanc sourced from the Wairau Valley in Marlborough. It has beautiful aromas of green, floral, and citrus. On the palate, it's crisp, medium acid and finishes with a passionfruit-like sweetness. Very balanced and approachable NZ sauv blanc.
David Skinner rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

This vintage calls upon a blend of 70% Wairau Valley fruit and 30% from the Awatere Valley. The light straw colour opens the door to passionfruit and grapefruit aromas. The richness of the Wairau grapes are evident on the palate with more citrus and passionfruit accompanied by a satisfying herbaceous touch. The Awatere fruit imparts a nice mineral and green bean extension to the finish.
Andrea Shapiro rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Pale lemon-green colour with grapefruit, starfruit, asparagus, dried grass, hay and a touch of kiwi fruit. On the palate there's citrus, white grapefruit and a touch of white pepper on the finish. Additionally there are some flinty gooseberry notes with a hint of clay. Well rounded with biting medium plus acidity, body and finish with starfruit, kiwi and grass persisting. Dry and crisp. An ideal pairing for grilled vegetables, and salads.
Pamela Chiles rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

A blend of grapes from two distinct Marlborough regions: Wairau and Awatere, each bringing their signature flavour profiles to this delicious wine. Grassy-nettle, gooseberry, lemony with biting acidity and deep, lingering flavour. Try with seared tuna steak with cilantro pesto.
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

A must buy for any NZ Sauvignon Blanc lover! Made from grapes from both the Wairau and Awatere valleys to capture the essence of Marlborough. Lots of passionfruit, lychee and pear with a flinty, mineral note. Flavours are balanced by bright, mouth-watering acidity, which also lengthens the finish. Very enjoyable, try as an aperitif to whet the appetite or with any fresh seafood.
Sylvain Segard rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Medium Straw colour with lime green hue. This wine has an intense tropical aroma of ripe passion fruit with discernible wisps of green bananas, green beans, wet flint, and wild herbs. The flavours are also dominated by passion fruit, albeit greener. This wine is dry with a refreshing medium length finish of citrus fruit. Score 88. (S.Segard, reviewed Sept. 25, 2017)
From Marlborough, South Island, Thornbury (2016) Sauvignon Blanc is lemon-lime lively with lemongrass, guava fresh herb flavours. Zesty acidity on this wine to be had with grilled or creamy seafood dishes. - Community Wine Reviews
