Hawke's Bay Cuvée

Ka Tahi Hawke's Bay Cuvée Sparkling Sauvignon Blanc 2019

Hawke's Bay, North Island, New Zealand

Melanie scored this wine: 90/100

With a colour reminiscent of lemon chiffon pie in a glass, this mouth watering Sparkling Sauvignon Blanc from Hawke's Bay, New Zealand is dry, has delicate bubbles, and can be enjoyed on its own or with food. The bouquet releases notes of fresh pear, pastry crust, lychee, citrus, and chives. It's light to medium bodied on the palate with notes of passion fruit, lemon, herbs, and delicate floral undertones seeping through. Tempura fried asparagus would make an excellent pairing, or try with spinach quiche, or fish in a light lemon sauce. Tasted July 2021

Melanie scored this wine: 90/100

Made from a blend of 50% Riesling, 17.5% Merlot, 17.5% Pinot Noir, 10% Chardonnay, and 5% Muscat. Expect notes of candied dried apricots, blood orange gelato, sour cherry, and mineral notes. Nice and tart on the palate. Lovely! Great bang for your buck. Wine-Food Pairing: I had this bottle with roasted salmon and it was great. It would work well with tempura fried seafood, shrimp, fresh seafood salad or summer salad. Tasted June 2021.

Lovely summer drink! Made using the Charmat method from the hybrid variety Vidal and just a touch of Pinot Noir. On the nose, grapefruit leaning towards pomelo with notes of rhubarb, red berries, spearamint, and floral notes. The fruit notes come through on the palate along with crunchy yellow plum and just a touch of sweetness. Pair with salty or spicy appetizers. Spicy salmon sushi anyone? Tasted May 2021

Cuvée Brut Rosé

Melanie scored this wine: 93/100

Made from Pinot Noir, this Champagne is visually stunning with its rich salmon colour. Expect red field berry aromas along with freshly baked pastry crust and red currant on the nose. Medium bodied and opulant on the palate with many fine bubbles and notes of red field berry, black cherry, and hints of freshly baked bread, with a slightly bitter grapefruit finish. The flavours linger. Pair with with lobster, crab, mushroom dishes, pork belly, or creamy cheese such as Brie.

Beautiful Sparkling Wine made in the traditional method from 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay. Stunning in the glass with a deep golden colour and delicate bubbles. On the nose, dried white fruit, baked apple, almond florentine, a touch of red berries and mineral notes. On the palate, it has some omph and opulence with notes of dried apricot, clementine, fresh acidity, delicate mousse, and a sharp nutty finish. Very lovely!

Unusual Wine Experience

Retsina, the greek white wine that smells and tastes like pine.

Current Fav Wine

I love the tartness often associated with cool climate wines. Currently, I am loving Ontario wines, especially Pinot Noir, Cab Franc, and dry Riesling. I have a soft spot for Italian wine. I also love a wide range of sparkling wines, especially those made using the Champenoise method.
