Made from 100% Nebbiolo, this Italian Red has aromas of plum and black cherry with notes of cinnamon, cedar, eucalyptus and potpourri as well as chocolate and truffle. It is medium-bodied and juicy on the palate with sour cherry and tart plum flavours followed by cocoa and cinnamon. The finish is clean and not bitter. The tannins are smooth and well integrated. Tasted March 2019. Wine-Food Pairing: I paired this wine with linguine in a fresh marinara sauce topped with grated Romano cheese, a wonderful pairing. It would also pair well with sharp cheeses such as Parmesan, with barbecued red meat, or with grilled Portobello mushrooms.

This tasty full-bodied Red has aromas of cassis spread along with field berries (blueberry, raspberry, very ripe strawberry), floral notes, dark chocolate, leather, cedar, eucalyptus, baking spice, and black pepper. On the palate, there are flavours of blueberry, blackberry, and chocolate, along with wood notes and a long bitter coffee finish. This is a food-friendly wine with tannins that are well incorporated and smooth. Pair with grilled red meat, pot roast, lamb chops, or dark chocolate.

It is a rare treat for me to sample Torrontes in a sparkling form. This dry sparkling wine is fragrant on the nose with aromas of rose, cantaloupe, lychee, clementine, and sweet lemon. On the palate it has citrus flavours, a mix of clementine and lemon, or more accurately pomelo with floral and herbal notes. It is light to medium bodied with vibrant acidity and a crisp finish. Tasted March 2019. WINE-FOOD PAIRING: I paired mine with shrimp dumplings. This would pair nicely with with sushi, Asian food, tempura fried asparagus, or with fried seafood appetizers.

This pale yellow sparkling wine has aromas of crunchy red delicious apple, peach, melon, mineral notes, pineapple, honey, and hints of sweet spice, vanilla, and almond. It is medium bodied and dry on the palate with crisp acidity. It has some richness with lots of minerality and flavours of orchard fruit, red apple, lime, pineapple, and a slightly bitter almond finish. The flavours linger. Tasted February 2019. WINE-FOOD PAIRING: Good on its own but would also pair well with Asian food

Made from a blend of Xinomavro, Krassato, and Stavroto and aged a minimum of twelve months in oak barrels, this Greek wine has aromas of black cherry and plum with cinnamon, leather, sweet tobacco, cedar, floral notes, dark chocolate, vanilla bean, and black pepper. Tart cherry and plum flavours follow through on the palate along with cinnamon, smoke and a cocoa finish. It is medium-bodied with velvety tannins and vibrant acidity. Tasted February 2019. WINE-FOOD PAIRING: This would pair well with pork chops, spicy sausage, or with meat lasagna. SCORE: 89

I love the tartness often associated with cool climate wines. Currently, I am loving Ontario wines, especially Pinot Noir and dry Riesling. I have a soft spot for Italian wine. I also love a wide range of sparkling wines, especially those made using the Champenoise method.
