Barista Pinotage 2020

Western Cape, Robertson W.O., South Africa
1062 days ago

Rachelle scored this wine: 91/100

This lovely Pinotage hails from Western Cape, South Africa. The Western Cape is known for its wine production and vineyards. Western Cape climate is typically Mediterranean, with warm, dry summers and cool, wet winters. This particular wine is "named after the coffee machine and the attendant who brews and dispenses espresso and lattes"! If you like coffee, you'll love this wine! Winemaker legend Bertus Fourie has earned the name "Starbucks" showcasing his incredible talent in crafting this coffee-flavored Pinotage. Intense flavors of freshly dark roast coffee, rich dark chocolate and the deep, dark fruit - plum, mulberry and cherry. This wine is beautifully balanced with added layers of smoke, tobacco, earth and a hint of crispy bacon. Long, exquisite finish. Delicious!

Terre del Conte

Tenuta Fratelli Povero Terre del Conte Roero Arneis 2019

Piedmont D.O.C.G., Italy

Rachelle scored this wine: 89/100

The Arneis grape was originally grown on the hills of Roero (Northwest of Alba) on the bank of the Tanaro River in Piedmont, Italy. Traditionally Roero Arneis a straw colored white wine with a beautifully fresh and delicate with a herbaceous nose and a slight hint of almonds. This Tenuta Fratelli Povero Terre del Conte Roero Arneis 2019 vintage shows lots of stone fruit aromas and lingering flavors of peach, apricot, apple, honey and pear. Two months on the lees added some complexity and depth while the stainless steel vinification resulted in a refreshingly crisp wine.

Gray Monk Estate Winery Pinot Gris 2019

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia BC V.Q.A., Canada

Rachelle scored this wine: 91/100

This is a gorgeous expression of a Pinot Gris from the award winning Gray Monk Estate Winery, in the breathtaking Okanagan Valley in BC. Interesting fact: the original proprietors George and Trudy Heiss owned and operated the winery for over three decades. George was originally from Austria and Trudy from Hungary. "In Austria and Hungary the Pinot Gris grape is called "Grauar Monch," thus the translation to Gray Monk". After the lovely couple retired in 2017, Andrew Peller Limited acquired the winery and continue to build upon the great work of the Heiss family creating lovely wines, enjoyed by so many. In the glass: Aromas of citrus fruit and dried apricots with lingering flavors of lemon, grapefruit and green apple. This wine is delightfully refreshing with a velvety mouthfeel and a medium long finish. A great wine to enjoy on the deck with a simple charcuterie and great company.

Rachelle scored this wine: 89/100

Another great wine from the #greatone - This nicely packaged red from Wayne Gretzky Estates showcases the Okanagan beautifully blending Merlot, Syrah and Malbec. The flavors are plump and juicy - dark berries, coffee, leather and spice. This wine was a big hit with grilled burgers.

Ruffino Modus 2017

Tuscany I.G.T., Italy

Rachelle scored this wine: 91/100

A Super Tuscan blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. An elegant nose of plump cherries, stewed blackberry, mint sprigs and mouthwatering dark chocolate. Magical flavors and layers of dark berry fruit, oak, sweet pipe tobacco, cocoa and vanilla. This wine is full bodied with chewy, young tannins and loads of aging potential. Drink now or enjoy ten years from now.
