Austrian Banana

Weingut R&A Pfaffl Austrian Banana Chardonnay 2017

Niederosterreich, Austria
1 day, 3 hours ago

Andrea Shapiro scored this wine: 88/100

This wine is just bananas! Ha! But seriously - dad jokes aside - this is a glistening golden fresh Austrian Chardonnay. Aromas consist of canned peaches, ripe yellow pears, and of course, I’m not sure if it’s entirely the power of suggestion but there’s plenty of rich buttery bananas! Tropical flowers follow the bright flavours; baked apples, pineapple and vanilla infused lemon curd. Medium plus brisk acidity, medium body and finish with rich creamy fragrant fruit (yes you guessed it - bananas!) Enjoy with popcorn or seared scallops. 88 points

Vignerons Du Castelas Syrah Grenache Mourvèdre 2007

Andrea Shapiro scored this wine: 89/100

This 2007 vintage Grenache/Syrah/Mourvèdre blend, is sitting pretty! An excellent time to enjoy it. Aromas reveal cherries, blueberries, smoke and raw vanilla beans. Flavours awaken with lively pomegranates, sundried tomatoes, chalky minerals accompanied by hints of smoky hickory. High acidity rounds well against the medium body, tannins and dry velvety finish. Enjoy with smoked duck breast - 89 points

Chianti Classico, Italy

Andrea Shapiro scored this wine: 88/100

A delightful classic Chianti Classico from Frescobaldi Tenuta Perano. Medium red colour with a glistening ruby hue. The bouquet reveals raspberries, dried herbs, graphite minerals, and spices. Flavours reflect sour cherries, tart raspberries, anise, spices, granite, and pine needle touches. Acidity is high alongside the tomato crisp finish and elevated velvety tannins. A very fine example paired with sundried tomato pizza. 88 points

The Silver Line

G. Marquis Vineyards The Silver Line Pinot Noir 2015

Niagara Peninsula, Ontario V.Q.A., Canada

Andrea Shapiro scored this wine: 88/100

A very pleasant Niagara-on-the-Lake Pinot Noir by G. Marquis. A pretty pale garnet colour with an inviting brick hue. An intricate bouquet of cherries, strawberries, cola, sweet smoke and forested wild flowers. Flavours reveal red plums, steeped tea, fresh basil and toasted hickory almonds. Acidity is bright yet balances nicely with distinct medium tannins and a medium minus body. Pair with grilled chicken and cremini mushrooms. 88 points

Lot 7

Candor Lot 7 Zinfandel

Lodi, California, United States
1 day, 23 hours ago

Andrea Shapiro scored this wine: 89/100

Lot 7 Zinfandel from Hope Family wines. Known for their stellar lineup of Liberty School and Treana wines, Candor Lot 7 beams a full bodied, ripe, juicy California Zinfandel with a hint of spice. Loaded with dark berries, cassis and caramelized vanilla bean at the back. Cooked fruit is pronounced adding a classic jammy Zinfandel feel. Dried fruit dates and figs present with a fruit compote ending in a lingering, lengthy clean finish. Big, fruity and fun. Try with hickory seasoned pork chops. 89 points - tasted January 2019
