A superb whisky blend made from Ontario grains and finished in red wine casks from the Gretzky winery which gives it both a toffee note and amber hue. Aromas of vanilla spice and toasty oak. Long, satisfying finish.

Melanie Lloyd - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Finished in red wine casks, this wonderful whisky releases aromas of butterscotch along with oak notes and hazelnut on the first nose. Give a quick swirl and these aromas open to earthy beet, cigar box, leather, and vanilla. It is so smooth on the palate with warm notes lingering of caramel and hazelnut.

Craig Haynes - WSET3 FWS SWS IWS rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

This Canadian whisky was finished with red wine casks from Wayne Gretzky estate winery, adding some complexity to the whisky spirit.

In my glass, this creation was defined by vibrant scent & flavours reminiscent of vanilla bean, sweet citrus, burnt caramel, dried apple, new leather, butter scotch and cereal grains. Full bodied, pleasing and approachable, serve solo or in your next Manhattan. Enjoy.

Andrea Shapiro rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Aged in red wine casks, this whisky offers notes of dried apricots, honey and burnt sugar. A soft warm hug of smooth hazelnut, apple and creme caramel. A fine sipper on its own, or blended in a cocktail of choice. Try with smoked or cured meats and roasted nuts. Enjoy! - Tasted December 2020
Lynn van der Linde - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Before bottling, this Canadian whisky has a finishing step of soaking in barrels previously used to make red wine, imparting a delightful marriage of aromas and flavours. The combination conjures memories of enjoying a Toblerone bar!
Caramel, pine nuts, nugget, and vanilla swirl in the glass, finished with a dried apricot palate.
Delight guests with a sip of this at your next dessert course, or as a campfire treat this summer.
Tasted December 2020.
Andrew Bernardo rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

The distillers know what they are doing here. There’s no rough edges to find, and plenty of toffee, red fruit skin, caramel, salted nuts, dried stone fruit and vanilla to go around. This whiskey has made an evolutionary leap since first released a few years ago. Batch variation is limited. Drink straight or ideally suit to a classic Manhattan. 90 Points.
Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Who doesn’t love Wayne Gretzky? After thrilling us with his hockey skills, he is now producing very impressive premium whisky in Niagara-On-The-Lake, Ontario. This smooth, medium-bodied whisky was aged in red wine casks. The result is a treat, with delicious caramel, spice, oak and hazelnut nougat notes. A lingering finish repeats the hazelnut and caramel flavours. Pour this in your coffee, enjoy it straight , or add in your favourite whisky cocktail. A real crowd pleaser!

Christian Marcoux rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Innovative like its maker, the Wayne Gretzky Red Cask Premium Whisky is finished in red wine cask, offering a flavor-camp of soft corn and aromas of apple, honey, spice, salt and potpourris. Well integrated alcohol and mature, this whisky will please with its easy drinkability and coating finish. On the palate: cooked apple, orange peel, cinnamon, spice, saline and oak. Enjoy!
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

This whisky is aged in red wine casks. Aromas include caramel, hints of dried fruit, leather and vanilla. Rich and smooth on the palate, enjoy on its own or in classic cocktails.
Courtney Flood rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

This Canadian craft whisky from the Wayne Gretzky distillery was aged in old red wine barrels, imparting warm, fruity notes; vanilla, cherry, raisin, along with dried leaves, tree resin and leather.

I tried it again in a cocktail - a little festive Manhattan made with a slice of meyer lemon and a few pomegranate arils, muddled with a tsp maple syrup and 1 oz Wayne Gretzky Red Cask Whisky. Yum!

I'm looking forward to more festive cocktails to come over the holidays!
