Reviews and Ratings

Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

A 100% Syrah, crafted from hand-harvested grapes grown in Chile's Cachapoal Andes Valley. Highly aromatic, with yummy blackberry, plum confit and spicy licorice. The rich, full-bodied palate shows excellent structure and acidity, with finely balanced fruity and spice elements. Delicous mocha note on long, elegant finish. You could cellar this wine for 5-8 years, but enjoying it now seems like a very fine option. Pair with lamb, pheasant, beef, meat stews or ripe cheeses. Excellent value.
Tasted Oct. 2018 with the winemaker, Matias Cruzat.
Andrea Shapiro rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Fabulous QPR on 1865 San Pedro juicy, fruit forward Syrah. - under $20. Aromas of blackberry, cherry, plum and hazelnuts. Flavours invigorate with spice, smoked meat, and stewed strawberry fruit sweetness lingering on the palate, and well into the fresh fruit driven medium plus finish. Balanced and rounded out against the medium plus acidity, body and velvety tannins. Light and fruity- akin to a northern Rhone syrah. A nice fit with herbed grilled lamb chops and eggplant. 91 points - tasted October 23, 2018
Pamela Chiles rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

From San Pedro's Los Quillayes vineyard, tucked at the foot of the Andes in the Cachopoal Valley, this wine is made from 100% Syrah grapes. Shallow soils in the vineyard make for stressed vines which create higher tannins and a rustic style of wine so winemaker Matias Cruzat is careful in his winemaking techinique (esp. with pumpovers) Almost purple in colour, complex, bold and fruity, enjoy this wine with charcuterie, braised meats, smoked ribs, firm, aged cheese. Great value!
Jon Steeves - Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Loved this cool climate Syrah. Great value. Purple in the bowl. Medium finish of plum, blackberry and baking spice. Paired with charcuterie platter. Tasted 2017 vintage in October 2018. 90 points
Christian Marcoux rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

From the Cachapoal Andes Valley, Chile, the 1865 Selected Vineyards 2017 100% Syrah was harvested by hand at the Vinas San Pedro Vineyard, which is owned by 1865 Vineyards. It exposes aromas of blackberry jam, red cherry, blueberry, licorice, backing spice, leather and oak. Full body with a long and bold finish, this 2017 Syrah offers aging capability of five to eight years. The tannins are present and yield complexity to this well-made Syrah. In the mouth, juicy dark fruit with fresh herbs, spice, tobacco, black pepper and oak will please the Syrah lover in you. Pair with red meat or cheese. Enjoy. Tasted at Chateau Laurier winemakers from Vina San Pedro’s properties 1865 Single Vineyards October 2018.
