A terrific, full-bodied Niagara red wine blend of several grapes. Rich and complex with excellent balance. This red wine is produced by the Speck brothers. Aromas of smoke, black fruit and spice. Love the depth and richness here. Pair with prime rib.

Reviews and Ratings

Luc Delorme rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

On pouring, the colour is lighter than I would have expected for a Syrah/merlot/cab blend. The nose is quite interesting: earth and smoky at first, some dark fruit follows afterwards.

On the palate, the earthiness disappears, leaving the way to smoky ripe berry fruit. Subtle tanning and just the right amount of acidity round the experience.

A very well-crafted Burgundian style red from Ontario. Definitely worth a try for under $20.
Nicole Lewis rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

A beautiful garnet hue with a hint of pink enrobed in aromas of portobello mushrooms, cassis, cherry, and white pepper presage flavours of cherries, tart guava jam. This wine exhibits a medium-bodied mouthfeel a medium-high acidity. I would pair this with moussaka.

Great acidity and mouthfeel, very well-integrated oak with plum, briar and dried fruit. 89 points.
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Consistently delicious every year. Aromas of blackberry, currant, spice, smoke and leather. Medium to full bodied, nicely balanced fruit, spice and smoke on the palate. Enjoy with mushroom or hearty lentil dishes.
Jon Steeves - Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Scrumptious, ruby red with mouthwatering juicy acidity. Cassis, blackberry, graphite minerality. Pairs well with carne asada tacos or gourmet burgers. Tasted 2016 vintage in May 2018. 88 points
Sharon Lécuyer rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

Vanilla on the nose and toasty. Flavours of dark fruit including cherry and floral. Would be a good sweet BBQ wine or to pair with a blueberry pie.

Eamonn Donnelly reviewed this wine as follows:

A bold red blend of Henry of Pelham. Family Tree is composed of Syrah, Merlot, Cab. Sauv, Cab. Franc and Baco Noir. Initially appears slightly paler than the blending components would suggest. Smoky and earthy notes surround dark fruit and savoury spice. Forest floor, sweet tobacco, bramble and cassis.

Lots of spice on the palate with a great savoury, peppery edge. Tarter fruit, blackberry and red currant provide bracing acidity. Medium plus body, polished tannins with a great fruit driven finish.
