Reviews and Ratings

Wineboy rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

powerful nose of animal leather and overripe fruit. Perfect replay on the palate. Not quite smooth so theefore can be aged 3-5 years, or drink now with foods with an element of fat.
Andrew Bernardo rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Dark berries, prune, fresh herbs, fresh tobacco, and loads of pepper make this a very good steak wine. 90 points (www.ottawawinejournal.com )
Lori Kilmartin WSET3 - WSET3 Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

I'm always on the lookout for this wine when it gets released in Vintages. For the price it's a great "everyday" wine to have in your cellar.

60% Monastrell and 40% Syrah from the Alicante region of Spain, it's a great "go to" wine when you are looking for something for supper or to take as a hostess gift.

At 15% alcohol you would expect it to be a lot heavier in the mouth than it is. Definitely full bodied but there is a great balance of acidity and fruit to counter balance.

Aromas of dark fruit, cassis and oak. Flavours of blackberry and a peppery bite from the Syrah. Now 8 years old the tannins have smoothed out and all elements are in harmony. I think it's quite drinkable now but would still cellar for another few years.

Pair with bbq'd hamburgers, steak or any roasted meats. It's a hearty wine to pair with hearty fare!

Rachelle O'Connor rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Dark fruit, smoke, spice and vanilla for aromas with a palate of jammy dark fruit, tobacco, spice, grippy tannins and a decent finish. Great with grilled steak flatbread pizza.
Cherie Cole rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

This Spanish red is a blend of 60% Monastrel and 40% Syrah. Medium-full body presenting layers of dark fruit, combined with tobacco leaf, vanilla and a sweet spice finish. This is a perfect burger pairing.
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Aromas of black currant, cherry, leather and spice with an oaky hint. Full bodied with bright acidity, with tart fruit, oaky spice and leather on the palate. Enjoy with a grilled steak.
Christian Marcoux rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

The Sein 2011, from the Alicante region of Spain, is made from 60% Monastrel/Mourvedre and 40% Syrah. This wine shows character and great value, with vibrant aromas of black raspberry, jam, black olive, black pepper, roasted meat, vanilla and oak. Full-bodied, this Spaniard expresses itself with a long and fruity finish, combined with well polished tannins. The wine reveals gentle earthy notes, with flavors of black raspberry, black currant, lavender, cocoa, coffee and oak. Enjoy!
Daniel O'Keefe rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

60-40 blend of Monastrell and Syrah showing nicely in its eighth year of age. The extra development time has allowed the fruit to settle down and the floral, leather, and earthy to show intensely. Great ripeness, red fruit and dark fruit trending towards the jammy side. Easy drinking and quite pleasant. Match this value red blend with pizza, BBQ ribs, and red sauce pasta dishes.
Melanie Lloyd - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

This cherry coloured wine has sous-bois characteristics. It has aromas of cedar, black currents, and honey, as well as a touch of incense and cigar box. It is chewy and has dark berries as well as underwood qualities on the palate. It has good length and is food friendly. It would pair nicely with a barbecued steak or with beef stew.

Tasted October 2017
Sein 2011 is a full-bodied red wine blend of 60% Monastrell and 40% Syrah from the Alicante wine region. When blended, the Monastrell is smoky from toasted oak treatment and the juicy Syrah gives the Monastrell lift and perfume. This is a big wine at 15% abv. Pair with rich meat dishes. - Community Wine Reviews
