Reviews and Ratings

Kristin Perrin rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Nose: black currant, red & black licorice, black cherry, espresso, cigar box
Palate: Spicy up front with clove, cinnamon, dark chocolate, blackberries, more coffee notes, gripping tannins & acidity, full bodied, long finish
Pair with braised red meats (lamb shanks!), hearty, meaty pasta dishes, harder aged cheeses, high quality dark chocolate
Caitlin Coleman rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Deep dark garnet in colour. 90% Nero D’Avola and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.
On the nose there is a distinct aroma of prunes, mulberry and black cherry. On the palate there is licorice, tobacco and cocoa. Incredibly full bodied with lots of tannin and high alcohol. Pair with steak and any other grilled red meat.
Andrea Shapiro rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Deep dark and inky. Opaque ruby, almost like a black hole you want to get sucked into! An intensely multilayered bouquet of dark ness with deep black fruit. Black cherry, dark skinned plum, prune, dark chocolate and black earth. Notes of cigar box and farmer’s boots present. Gamy and smokey. In the mouth this is rich and full. Cassis, blackcurrant and bakers chocolate. Rich full body and elevated firm tannins. Opulent, onyx and opaque. Pair with fresh game horse, a private Sicilian meeting with Vito Corleone and a Partagas Serie D no. 5 cigar.
92 points - November 2017
Andrew Bernardo rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

This wine is stewy, big and rich, with lots of fresh and dried black fruit, herbs, and tomato leaf. Massive tannic structure for an 8 year old wine. Demands ragout or bolognese. 91 points. (www.ottawawinejournal.com)
Jon Steeves - Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Wow. Great value. Inky, deep and dark, balanced, integrating well. Big plump plum, hint of leather, mocha. Enjoy with prime rib. Tasted 2009 vintage in Nov 2017. 91 points #BespokeTastings
Simon Chen rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

This one is stew and rich on the palate but it skips the mid palate and comes with big dry dry tannin. Not sure which one will resolve first with decanting. If you light big bone dry wine, this is the one to go!
Wineboy rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Huge ripeness in this Nero D'Avola. Plums with a hint of dried fruits too. Less power on the palate than one would expect (but I tried this wine after a much heavier thing). Tannins are present but tiny and evolving. Keep this one for 2 years and be rewarded.
Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

A big, bold blend of Nero D'Avola 90% with Cab Sauv 10%. Ripe blueberries, plums, tobacco and tar on the nose. Rich, complex palate adds licorice, cocoa and savoury notes. Would be terrific with game or beef bourguignon.
Tasted Nov. 2017
Gwen Barton rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Full-bodied. Rich and robust, yet very dry. Ripe red fruit with sage spice and earthiness. Incredibly firm tannins - I would suggest pairing with steak topped with blue cheese. Tasted Nov 2017.
Sean O'Regan - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Opaque ruby, dark fruit and spice on the nose. Full bodied, soft and silky on the palate, with ripe dark fruit, prune and spice. Nicely balanced with fine tannins on the finish. This would make a good pairing with bbq ribs.
Tasted Nov, 2017
Dan Carkner reviewed this wine as follows:

Toasted hazelnut leaps from the glass before you even get close. Smoky cassis, licorice, and prune emerge upon closer inspection. New leather, black olive, and earth join in on a nose that will keep on giving if you devote the time. Jammed berries, dried prune and fig with some olive and forest floor dominate the palate in this bold, brooding wine. Big, chewy tannins and medium acidity suggest this could age a few more years yet. Food with fat content is necessary if drinking this wine now. Think thick-cut, medium rare striploin steak with a roasted shallot cream sauce and crumbled blue cheese.
Orestiadi Ludovico (2009) is a robust, rustic 90% Nero d'Avola and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon red wine blend from the Sicily wine region. On the palate, the wine is black currant, herbs and spicy cracked pepper. Tannins are grippy. Pair with game stews. - Community Wine Reviews
