A blockbuster blend of Cabernet and Merlot grapes with a splash of Sangiovese from northern Italy. The 2013 vintage is very fresh, more so than the 2012 vintage (which was a strong one). A lot of elegance in the glass here. Pair with braised beef.

Reviews and Ratings

Bill Wright Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Aroma of cedar and sweet fruit. Great acid and loots of cherry. A pasta wine or on its own. Tasted Jan 31/16
Douglas McMillan rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Medium ruby with aromas of cedar, graphite, ripe red cherry, dried roses, and baking spices. The taste is big, with lots of juicy red berry, mainly cherry. Grippy tannins add a nice structure.
Jon Steeves - Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

This wine is a ruby red Tuscan beauty, declared at 13% ABV. Old world in a glass, with ripe red fruit, leather, baking spices, and a hint of savoury herb. Well-balanced, well-integrated with medium acidity, medium plus tannins. Long finish with persistence of strawberry and leather. Enjoy this wine with lasagna or cannelloni. Tasted Jan 2016.
Mymi Thesingingsommelier - Sommelier, FWS rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

The Frescobaldi family is intimately linked to the history of Tuscany itself. With over 700 years of wine making in the region, the family still artfully crafts wines with the utmost respect for tradition and the land.
This is the estate’s iconic wine crafted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese.
Dark ruby red in color with rich aromas of charred meats, ripe cherries, dried mint, vanilla and a hint of dried lavender.
Soft, supple and warm on the palate. The acidity and tannins are perfectly integrated creating a lush and fruity nectar.
Simply delicious.
David Skinner rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Medium Ruby colour. Aromas of ripe red fruit, black pepper with hints of anise and chocolate. Medium acidity and medium plus tannins make for a very well balanced full bodied wine. The flavours echo what's promised on the nose. Plenty of cherry some cassis and spice. A persistent finish. (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese)

This would be fabulous with a wild boar ragu and pappardelle pasta dish
Carola Price rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Clear and cherry red core. Nose of leather and red cherry/ currant, baking spice. In the mouth it is earthy and fruity. A wonderful combination of lead, tobacco leaf, dark cherry and herbaceous notes. A medium long finish and so well balanced with the tannin and alcohol. Would be a good cellar candidate to see further development over 6 years.
Pair with rabbi stew, braised brisket and of course meat filled pasta with rich tomato based sauce.
Monique Sosa - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

A fresh fruit forward Chianti on the nose but balanced on the palate. Pronounced aromas include cherry, plum, smoke and anise. Flavours show remarkable fruit concentration, high acidity and soft tannins. This lovely medium bodied wine is crowd pleasing and very food friendly. Pair with tomato sauce based dishes, stews, or even try it with Asian stir fry. Tasted Jan 2016.
Lynn van der Linde - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Heady aromas of juicy plums, baking spices, and pepper. A food friendly pour, with balanced tannins and acidity and a lingering peppery finish. Wonderful with beef dishes, or with your meat lovers' pizza!
Tasted January 2016.
Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Blackberry, dried fruits, baking spices, cedar, and graphite on the nose. This Tuscan treat is great on its own and shines bright when enjoyed with rich Italian pasta or braised beef dishes. Enjoy 2016-2020. Tasted January 2016. 89 points. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca
Sylvain Segard rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

A Bordeaux style blend with an Italian twist.

Deep ruby in colour, the Cabernet-Merlot flavours are dominant, yet there is theclear freshness of Sangiovese and a juicy acidity, which unmistakadly brands this wine as Tuscany IGT. It is austere, a bit smoky, shows lots of black fruit, and a touch of Balsamic.

Score 89. (Sylvain Segard, Reviewed Dec. 13, 2016)
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Aromas include dried fruit, ripe berries and cedar. Fruit is bright on the palate with some pepper and nice acidity. Lovely wine for pasta, but the pepper notes would make it a great match for meat dishes as well.
Craig Kuziemsky rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Bursts with plums, cherries and spice. Well balanced with a nice finish with soft tannins an a hit of spice. A great wine to pair with meat pizza or pasta in spicy tomato sauce.
Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

An extra-dry fruity red from Italy's Tuscany region, showing appetizing tart cherry with touches of herbs and spice. Good acidity makes it very food-friendly.
Jacky Blisson rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

A bone dry, yet round, easy drinking effort from Frescobaldi, with lots of ripe black fruits, with subtle, underlying earthiness and smoky, tea leaf notes. The tannins are ripe and fleshy, framing the finish nicely. Fairly short, not overly complex, but a great quaffing wine nonetheless.
Rebecca Meir-Liebman - Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Sangiovese. I am a big fan of blended wines because it allows the winemaker to create the perfect balance of flavours--doesn't matter how successful or challenging a vintage was. Evident graphite on the nose, black fruits, tobacco, smoke, and leather on the palate with delicious licorice and dried fruit notes. Tannins and acidity are beautifully balanced with lush fruit.
Alex & Priya - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

Priya: A warm, fruity wine that surprisingly has no hint of sweetness in the mouth. Thankfully it's not super tannic so it's appealing to my novice tastebuds. A good food wine I'd say.

Alex: A very elegant, soft, supple rendition of Cab Sauv and Merlot. Sweet cassis and plum compote with black liquorice and a dash of red pepper. Spicy, smoky, sinewy palate with ripe packed fruit, a touch of rusticity with a savoury finish. Well polished.
Valérie Dufour - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

Nice aromas of black fruits (plums in eau-de-vie) and spices. The mouth is crisp. Easy to drink Italian. Pair it with pasta.
Emilie Ryan rated this wine as 80/100 with the following review:

If you like leather and black licorice, this one’s for you…
Presentation: Monochrome, plain and some writing is hard to read.
Appearance: Medium ruby
Nose: Leather, mocha, pepper, anise
Taste: Wood, anise, leather.
Finish: Anise, leather and anise linger.
Overall impression: Strong on the black licorice and leather. Quite tannic so needs food (red meats, pasta with red sauce, etc.)
Value: 2 out of 5
