Wicked Red

Hob Nob Wicked Red 2015

Languedoc, France

Carola scored this wine: 86/100

Clear and deep rich red. On the nose it is rich red fruit with some jammy character, lead and cedar tones. Pow! In the mouth it is lively deep rich red fruit and a bit of chocolate orange, slight vanilla on the finish. Medium bodied and a big surprise in terms of finish. Very balanced but the residual sweetness surfaces right at the end. So pair this with Devils Food cake, fudgey brownies or some Teriyaki Beef, Orange Beef or Korean Bulgogi. Cheeses will do well here but stick to Havarti, Edam, Jarlsberg, and Oka because of their slightly soft texture. Drink now

Clear and deep red. Cassis, mint leaf, vanilla and baking chocolate in the nose. In the mouth there is chocolate covered cherry and vanilla bean. Slightly overly sweet for my palette but I love using it to make a delicious coq au vin. The alcohol and body keep the sauce rich while the sweetness mellows the chicken, garlic and onions. Pair with softer cheeses like Saint Andre and Chaumes or keep it simple and order a fully loaded meat pizza. Drink now to 1 year

Dark reddish purple. On the nose it is plum and some acacia flower with a hint of black pepper and dark chocolate. Medium bodied with chocolate and plum coming through mid palette. Finishes a bit short but overall for the price this is one for a late night party or a great introduction to the world of Merlot. Pair with BBQ chicken, weiner shnitzel with dilled potato salad and with grilled cheese Drink now

Clear and deep red. A nose of coffee grounds, earth and macerated cherries. In the mouth it is tart and slightly hot. Flavours of cherries, vanilla, tobacco leaf and red currant. Medium bodied and screaming for fully loaded veggie pizza, mediterranean dishes (think Baba Ghanouj and lamb) or simple spaghetti bolognese. Drink now with a decant or very big glass but you can also cellar for up to 4 years.

Brightly salmon coloured. The nose is herbaceous with lemon balm and thyme with strawberry and black pepper. The mouth is bitter but in a good way with more peppery strawberry flavour. This is a typical well made Tavel, known to match up to a steak as long as there's pepper and spice. I enjoy it with autumn BBQ's, mesquite smoked duck and even with Korean Bulgogi. Drink or hold to 5 years
