Produced by Montezovo, this full-bodied red wine has a lovely bite plus rich, ripe blackberries and dark fruit. Just enough toasty oak. Wonderful wine for the price point: full-bodied, juicy, and layers of rich black cherry aromas and flavours. Good acidity, nice balance overall. Made using the Appassimento method of drying the grapes to concentrate the flavour, depth and heft. Pair with game meats. Fire up the grill!

Reviews and Ratings

Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

A dark garnet red wine that showcases the Ripasso method of winemaking.
After careful grape selection and harvesting, the wine is poured onto the skins of the Amarone in January and left together with them for twenty days so it is able to acquire the distinctive aromas of dried fruit, ripe fruit and jam that will add body and character to the resulting product. A very aromatic rich wine, with aromas of ripe plums, stewed fruit, vanilla and a hint of almonds. A rich, jammy palate, fine sensuous mouthfeel and long, stewed fruit finish. Try it with game or roast duck and mushroom risotto.

Mary Anne van Gaal rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

This Vapolicella Ripasso from Northern Italy is full of rich, full bodied flavour. Aromas of plum and vanilla greet the nose. Smooth flavours of ripe fruit fill the palate. This would pair wonderfully with pizza or steak.
Lynn van der Linde - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

A really lovely Ripasso with floral, plum and date aromas, a silky mouth feel, and a persistent plum finale. A great value wine!
Lori Kilmartin WSET3 - WSET3 Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

The Ripasso method adds complexity and dried fruit aromas prevalent in this wine. A touch of smoke and red fruit - dried cherries, plums and some sweet spice. Lots of dried fruit on the palate and a long finish. This would make a great reduction for a mushroom risotto - with a glass to sip as well!
Douglas McMillan rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Aromas of tar, baking spices and stewed fruit and a touch of earthiness. A nice tartness and spiciness to the taste, with almost a Baco Noir aspect to the fruit. This is not an overly 'raisiny' Ripasso as many are. A nice wine for Pasta with tomato sauce.
Craig Kuziemsky rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Aromas of plum, smoke and India ink. The palate offers ripe fleshy plums and a smoky finish.
Emilie Ryan rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

A very nice example of an Appassimento method wine...

Appearance: medium ruby red
Nose: cherries, leather, wood.
Taste: cherries, wood, leather, plums, balanced. Would definitely pair well with any meat on the BBQ, or pasta with a good, rich sauce and/or strong cheeses (parmesan, old cheddar, etc.)
Finish: long, leather, cedar.
Overall impression: A nice, balanced wine that can be enjoyed now with food.

Value: 4 out of 5 (at 15.95, it's a steal and would be 5/5!)
Terry Jeans - Certified S rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

A medium ruby coloured Valpolicella Ripasso, with some dried red fruit aromas, smoke and spice. Good complexity of acidity, ripe fruit and medium tannins make this a well balanced and very affordable wine. Food-friendly with most pasta dishes with red sauce or a pizza.
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Smoky, earthy, slight oak, and subtle notes of both ripe and dried plum. A bit of heat from the alcohol. Pair with tomato or mushroom dishes, maybe pizza!
