Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc 2017, Marlborough, South Island, New Zealand: Winemaker Anthony blends different vineyard parcels of the grapes, like they do in Champagne to create more complexity and interesting flavours. Well-priced at $10 for this benchmark Sauvignon Blanc produced from grapes sourced from the Marlborough's Awatere and Wairau Valley. This is a lovely summer sipper for one on the patio on a sunny afternoon or an appie wine for two prior to the main course. Avalon Cabernet Sauvignon 2016, Lodi, California, United States: Avalon 2016 is a full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon from the Lodi wine region with some Zinfandel and Petite Sirah splashed into it. Ripe plums, blue florals, toasty oak and smoke can be found on the nose, with a palate full of vibrant plum, blueberry, red currant flavours finishing with sweet spice and mocha notes.
