Reviews and Ratings

Greg Hughes rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

You may not know Mount Benson as an appellation, but if you like wine you probably know its neighbours: Coonawarra, Wrattonbully, and Padthaway. As a member of the cool kids club known as the Limestone Coast, you would be correct to assume its soil is similar to the others (ie: grown in limestone terra rossa).
Altitude makes a difference too. The wines here are grown on ideal aspects higher up, where the nights are cooler. This preserves freshness and aromatics. Shiraz actually likes cooler winters too, since it needs to sleep deeply.
This wine is quite zippy and juicy. Aromatics hide none of the classic Shiraz spiciness. Pepper, coffee, lavender, and overripe blackberry.
The flavours are superb too.
Loads of mineral zing accompany a generous body and deep colour. It saw a smattering of oak, 10% saw French barriques for just under a year.
This is a cool, not often seen, wine that hits the spot for value.
Stack up a few and enjoy with hearty stews or assorted charcuterie meats.
From Mount Benson, Limestone Coast, Norfolk's Rise Vineyard 2017 Shiraz is great value under $15. This is a medium-bodied, dry Shiraz brought up in stainless-steel and 10% French oak barrels for 10 months. Very fresh and perfumed with jasmine, blue florals, black pepper and spice on the nose, fresh, ripe red fruits, cracked pepper and savoury herb flavours on the palate. All in all very fresh and easy to drink. Enjoy now and for the next three years. - Community Wine Reviews
