Reviews and Ratings

Douglas McMillan rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

The nose is salty, smoky, and floral with dried black currant and plum. The impression of saltiness comes through on the palate with some chocolate and plum providing the meat of the flavour. A touch of fine tannins, medium acidity, and all in quite a nice balance. Not austere, but rather refined.
Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Dark plums and blackberries on the nose, with a beautifully layered palate giving dark plums, forest floor, dried herbs, slight violets and oak. Food-friendly acidity and an elegant finish. Aged 9 mos. in French oak.
Enjoy with hearty casseroles and hard cheeses.

Sylvain Segard rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Bright medium ruby. Bing cherries and fresh and stewed plums with a fient violet aroma. A hint of smoke and humus complement the repeating fruit flavours. Extra dry, well integrated tannins, with lasting acidity and a sour cherry finish. This will pair well with roasted meats.
Neil Phillips rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Deep in colour, this wine offers a vibrant nose of baked red & black fruits, liquorice, rose, carnations, and a slight resinous note.

On the palate, very balanced acids & tannins. Flavours of blackberry jam, smoked meat, tobacco, resin. A lot of depth and flavour here, but not over-the-top.

I'd definitely put some down fro five years or so.

Tasted October 2016.
Emilie Ryan rated this wine as 86/100 with the following review:

A big wine…
Presentation: Clean, plain, likely to get lost on the shelf
Appearance: Clear, medium to deep, ruby colour
Nose: Clean, medium nose with violets, roses, plums, raspberries, smoke
Taste: Dry, medium-to-full body, high acidity, high/round tannins, notes of earth, sour cherries, green peppers, anise, pepper, meat, smoke
Finish: Long finish
Overall impression: A good wine that needs salty foods that are on the acidic end of the spectrum.
Value: 4/5
From Portugal's Quinta da Pellada this red blend of Tinta Roiz, Touriga Nacional, Jaen and Alfrocheiro is a different blend from the Dao wine region. A great barbecue wine. - Community Wine Reviews
