Love the sharpness, tang and zestiness of this Washington Chardonnay that is beautifully balanced with the creamy texture and tropical fruit aromas such as melon and pineapple. Yet it also finishes lean and refreshing. One-third of this wine was fermented in stainless steel to preserve fruit freshness which cuts through the buttery richness of the wine that was aged in oak. Pair with pork chops and veal.

Chardonnay food pairings: crab-stuffed-flounder, Asian dishes, stuffed chicken, beef bourguignon.

Reviews and Ratings

Andrew Bernardo rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

During a recent tasting, this wine pulverized its Washington State competition, spiking to 93 Points on my enological Richter scale. Cut open some fresh bread, and load it with stone fruit and citrus preserves, then cover with more bread and add some brown sugar on top and bake to caramelize. This isn't a food pairing suggestion, this is literally what it tastes like. What makes it better, though, is that right at the last moment, it's like the winemaker takes a pitcher full of Meyer lemon juice and douses the whole thing to give it that much needed zip. 93 Points. Pair with...more.
Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

A stunning Chardonnay that over delivers in every imaginable way. Elegant yet screaming with flavour, the orchard fruit is wrapped up in layers of tasty butterscotch, roasted hazelnuts, and brioche, making this a very complex and well balanced Chard. Enjoy with richly flavoured dishes, or roasted poultry such as Quail. Enjoy 2016-2020. Tasted June 2016. 91 points. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca
Wineboy rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

A good old buttery oaky Chardonnay - getting harder to find. The fruit is apple-ish, the oak takes a more popcorn-like flavour.
Ashley Tyla WSET rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

A yummy medium bodied Chardonnay. It’s like baked pear and apple drizzled with honey. It has a little citrus, like grapefruit, but lots of toasted coconut and tropical fruit. Its elegance and complexity really showcase what Washington is all about.
.
The oak is subtle so if you’re looking for a nice wine to hold up to Salmon or mild cheeses, while still maintaining some acidity and lightless this is a great choice. Also a great one for someone wanting to take the leap into the world of Chardonnay but doesn’t want to head straight to the big huge buttery ones.

Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

One of my favourites from our recent tasting of wines from Washington State. This Chardonnay from the Horse Heaven Hills vineyard beautifully balances tropical fruit and pear notes with a light vanilla and warm spice, and even a slightly floral note. Acidity is bright and helps to keep this wine very refreshing. The finish is slightly creamy and lingers. Fruit and warm spice notes mingle nicely making this a wine that would complement a wide variety of dishes, from a range of seafood and fish, to a classic roasted chicken. Also, a great value at $19.95.
Monique Sosa - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

What a chardonnay! This is one of my most appreciated wines by Columbia Crest. The aromas are mild yet sustains a presence of fresh apricots, white peach, citrus blossoms and orange peel. The palate is dry with a creamy mouthfeel and pronounced flavours that reflect the aromas. I admire the texture of this wine so much so that one glass just begs for the other. Pair with a New England feast: crab cakes, lobster rolls, or clam chowder. Tasted July 2016. @sommsosa @bespokestastings
Mary Anne van Gaal rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

This is a tropical Chardonnay with sweet notes of honey and pear and flavours of pineapple, grapefruit and light oak. Since 1/3 of the grapes are fermented in stainless steel vats, it is less buttery and more layered for a chardonnay. It would pair nicely with an herbal spiced pork tenderloin.
Lori Kilmartin WSET3 - WSET3 Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

The grapes for this wine are harvested only from the Horse Heaven Hills. A layered wine created by fermenting 1/3 in stainless steel. Stone fruit with a touch of oak, the acidity from the stainless fermentation cuts the buttery flavour just enough. Medium to long finish. Pair with Salmon Cakes or poached chicken with a light cream sauce. Tasted June 2016
Cherie Cole rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

This Chardonnay is a true representation of the terroir of Washington State. Showcasing elegance and complex notes of honey crisp apples, pears, sweet spice and honey with a long lemon-lime finish. The body is medium with bright acidity. 1/3 of the wine was fermented in stainless steel and aged in 20% new oak with a small percentage aged in concrete. Pair with pork tenderloin. Tasted June, 2016.
Daniel O'Keefe rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

Oaky nose brimming with vanilla, butterscotch, and toffee. Creamy palate is similar to the nose while introducing oak spice in the finish. Try with salmon with a creamy dill sauce, fettuccine alfredo, or pork belly with a butterscotch reduction.
Columbia Crest H3 2014 Chardonnay is a well-priced Chardonnay from Horse Heaven Hills, Columbia Valley, Washington. Look for ripe pear, red apple and honey flavours on this fresh and smooth, dry Chardonnay. Great acidity for food. A third of the wine was fermented in stainless steel and aged in 20% new oak with a small percentage aged in concrete. Pair with pork tenderloin. - Community Wine Reviews
