Reviews and Ratings

Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

This multi-award-winning Reserve Pinot Noir was crafted from choice grapes grown in Marlborough's Awatere and Wairau valleys. Highly aromatic, with delicious ripe cherry, violet and mocha notes, then the palate is an exciting explosion of fruit, spice, earthy undertones and hints of bitter chocolate. Generous, silky texture and lingering finish. This wine illustrates why I love New Zealand Pinot Noir.
Tasted September 2017 with the winemaker, Simon Fells.
Cherie Cole rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Vidal of Hawkes Bay is one of the oldest wineries in New Zealand, established in 1905. The forward-thinking Sir George Fistonich purchased this winery in 1976. It was the first winery in history to have a wine restaurant. This Reserve Pinot Noir came from the stellar 2015 vintage whereby perfect weather conditions contributed to the great quality of this wine. Red raspberry, dark cherry, clove and violet aromas fill the glass and are repeated on the palate with a medium-full body and velvety tannins. Tasted with winemaker Simon Fell, September 2017.
Andrea Shapiro rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

This was a surprising and delightful Pinot. Strawberry, pomegranate, wet leaf, forest floor, mushroom, tree moss, compost, toasted hickory and green vegetation. Brilliantly earthy and fruity with cherry, hickory roasted berries, and raspberry tartness. Absolutely delicious with some oaky tannins. Dry, with a well rounded finish. A refined example of Pinot Noir from Marlborough.
Pair with grilled meats, mixed green mandarin and strawberry salad and barbecued, planked salmon.
Melanie Lloyd - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

This Pinot Noir has an almost gamey quality. It is earthy with aromas of strawberry, cherry, honey, and a bit of spice. The berries follow through on the palate. It is tart, and the tannins are well incorporated. This fragrant wine would pair nicely with pork or with duck in a berry sauce.

Tasted September 2017.
Pamela Chiles rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

A well-balanced Pinot Noir from Marlborough with good depth and complexity. Nose of cranberry and spice with a cran-cherry, smokey, herbal palate. Malo is delayed until spring (starts naturally), thereby adding complexity. Desperately Seeking Grilled Salmon.
