Reviews and Ratings

Olivier de Maisonneuve rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Interesting nose, making me think of a red heart-shaped chocolate box,for Valentine's Day. Or a box of After Eight. There is a hint of mint. Not sweet at all, but with a nice texture. It should indeed, be decanted to allow it to bloom. Quite interesting, all around. I do believe i like it! With a goulash?
Kristin Perrin rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Black currant, medicinal herbaciousness, tar / leather black pepper on the nose.
All of the above echoed on the palate, thick and full bodied, firm tannins, medium acidity- lasting finish.

Steak and blue cheese.
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Aromas of ripe, cooked red fruit, smoke, spice, and a slight anise note. red fruit, charcoal, and anise carry through on the palate too. Grippy tannin and prominent oak. If drinking now, give it an hour or two to open up, but could also save this for a couple of years and let the flavours develop. Would love to have this with a steak.

Douglas McMillan rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Leather, spices, dried herbs, jammy cherry , sweet smoke, and a dusty note in the aromas. The mouth feel is silky, tart, and tannic, coming across is tart cherry and cranberry. There are lots of tannins, but they're not too grabby. The finish is tannic cranberry with the tartness in the taste softening. A nice rare red meat wine for fans of tannins, perhaps a plain rare filet.
Nick Onischuk - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

The Axia Alpha Estate Syrah Xinomavro 2010 is a beautiful full bodied wine. Features aromas of blackberry, cherry, smoke and a hint of floral. The palate delivers nice fruit and oakiness that will potentially knock you off your chair. Great value. Tasted on February 1, 2014 (89/100)
Courtney Flood rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Interesting aroma of milk chocolate, cherry, and pomegranate, some rosewater. Very high acidity wine, fairly light and refreshing for syrah with the. Great food wine, definitely pasta with a great high quality olive oil. Very interesting wine!
Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

A blend of 50% Syrah and 50% Xinomavro. A unique blend with a unique nose. Sweet cherry, raspberry, perfume, chocolate covered raisins, charcoal, and mulberry notes. The palate is very astringent given the youthful tannins that require time to evolve and chill-out, which can be achieved by decanting for two hours prior to enjoying with grilled rosemary rack of lamb. Would love to taste this in two years. Tasted November 2014. 87+ points. Matt Steeves - @QuercusVino
Sean O'Regan - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

Nov 22, 2014: Med ruby, red berry, stewed fruit, currants, a slight oxidative note with heavy oak char. Med-full, red currant, red cherry, floral/savory note, tobacco, savoury, chalky drying tannins, oaky tannin. Needs time to soften up. Drink over the next 3-5 years.
