Momo Seresin Estate Pinot Noir 2015, Marlborough, South Island, New Zealand: A juicy, smooth New Zealand red wine, with pleasingly tart and vibrant cherry aromas and flavours in this pinot noir. Supple and medium- to almost full-bodied. Very tasty. Mouth-watering acidity is fantastic for a range of dishes, from planked salmon to roast chicken. The Pinot Noir wine grapes for this New Zealand, South Island Pinot Noir from Seresin Estate wee hand-picked. The vineyard is bio-grow certified and Momo is made using organic and biodynamic winemaking practices. Momo translates to "Offspring" in the native Maori language. d'Arenberg The Footbolt Shiraz 2014, Mclaren Vale, South Australia, Australia: Meaty, savoury and lip-smacking delicious! Enticing eucalyptus and blackberry aromas in this full-bodied, smooth Australian red wine. Sure to please even the most hardened cabernet fan. Loaded with concentrated dark red fruit flavours on the finish, along with a spice kick. This robust red wine was not fined or filtered. Pair with meat lovers pizza. The palate of this big Australian Shiraz offers lots of black fruit and smoke. This wine was matured for 12-18 months in a combination of French and American oak. Fermentation was stopped two-thirds of the way through and juice was not filtered. "Footbolt" is named in honour of the racehorse that founder Joseph Osborn had to sell in order to start the d'Arenberg winery in 1912. Since 1912, the Osborn family has farmed vineyards in the McLaren Vale. Winemaker Chester Osborn takes small batches of grapes that are crushed then transferred to open fermenters and then foot treading is undertaken. Smooth and complex. Pair with rare steak. Produced by Jean de Monteil, Prop., this French red wine blend of Cabernet and Merlot is made from grapes grown in the appellation Castillon, named in honour of the battle of 1453 that ended the Hundred Years War. Paso Creek Zinfandel 2015, Paso Robles, California, United States: The Californian region is situated between Santa Barbera and San Francisco and has the widest temperature swings of any grape growing region in the state. This causes the vines to create small clusters of grapes that are deep concentrated in flavour and richly flavoured wines. Small lot winemaking and barrel aging allows the bold character of the wine to emerge. Seductive aromas of campfire smoke and fleshy ripe blackberries on the nose and palate of this delightfully delicious Californian red wine. Great value for this price. Pair with barbecued steak. Foncalieu St. Gervais Réserve Du Crouzau 2012, Côtes Du Rhône-Villages A.C., France: Full-bodied and richly layered and smooth with lots of fleshy black fruit and some smoke on the finish. Awesome party wine. Previous vintages of this wine have been awarded the Gold Medal at Concours Mondial de Bruxelles. This robust red is primarily made from the enticing Grenache grape. Château des Charmes St. David's Bench Vineyard Gamay Noir 2016, St. David's Bench, Niagara-On-The-Lake, Ontario V.Q.A., Canada: The vines for this wine are planted on the side of ancient limestone slopes of the St. David's Bench Vineyard in glacial soils located furthest from the cooling temperatures of Lake Ontario and therefore benefiting from warmer temperatures and longer ripening. This clone of Gamay (Droit) is unique to this winery and is unoaked. A juicy Niagara red wine with lots of mouth-watering acidity on the palate of this made from the Gamay Noir Droit grape. Teliani Valley 2015, Alazani Valley, Kakheti, Georgia: Sweet red wine is an acquired taste. If you’ve acquired it, this is your wine. Lovely sweet cherries and blackberry liqueur. This is a terrific wine to sip on after dinner with or without dessert. The Saperavi grape is a most important and popular Georgian grape variety in making medium sweet wine. The grape juice from Saperavi is dark, with dark cherry and blueberry fruit, herbs and a citrus zest. Aydie L'origine 2014, Madiran, Southwest A.P., France: Full-bodied and restrained for the Madiran, usually the home of palate-whacking reds. Doesn't even taste like 14% alcohol. Concentrated, rich and deep. Produced by Famille Laplace at Château d'Aydie, this robust southern French red is a blend of 70% Tannat and 30% cabernet sauvignon grapes that was partially barrel aged. The Tannat grape, named for its firm tannins, gives structure to the wine. Food pairings: rich tomato sauce and pasta dishes, hard cheeses, grilled pork tenderloin. Masserie Pisari Primitivo 2014, Salento Rosso I.G.T., Italy: A delicious, full-bodied red at a great price. Lots of complexity and richness here with aromas of black plum and blackberry. A nice long finish. Primitivo from Italy, like this one, and Zinfandel from California are the same grapes. Pair with meat lovers' pizza or hamburgers. A racy, spicy Italian red wine made from Primitivo grapes. Primitivo and California Zinfandel have been proven scientifically to be genetically identical. The heart of Primitivo production is in the southern Italian region of Puglia in the southeast corner of Italy's "boot" which has a Mediterranean climate and cool ocean breezes. Tsantali Reserve 2013, Rapsani, Thessalia P.D.O., Greece: A rustic, tannic red wine with aromas of charred black fruit, toast, oak and smoke. Firm grip on the palate. It's a blend of traditional grapes including Xinomavro, Krassato, and Stavroto. Pair with hearty meat dishes. Xynomavro's Tsantali Reserve Rapsani (2012) is a boisterous, rustic red, toasty, oaky and with very firm tannins. Produced from Greece's traditional grapes grown on the southern slopes of Mount Olympus. Food pairings: Greek marinated lamb ribs on the grill, souvlaki, spanakopita pie. Vibrant aromas of gooseberry and grapefruit on the palate, with lots of mouth-watering acidity for a range of dishes from salads to seafood. This is a great seafood wine from New Zealand's South Island wine growing region. Mount Riley is a zesty Sauvignon Blanc with tropical and fresh herbal notes. Domaine Jacky Marteau Sauvignon Touraine 2016, Loire A.C., France: This Sauvignon Blanc offers vibrant and refreshing notes of both lime citrus and herbal-grassy that makes it an extremely versatile food companion from vegetarian dishes to seafood, shellfish and salads. Terrific French white wine, especially for the money. This Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire wine region is a perfect pairing to goat cheese in any form. Domaine Jacky Marteau is excellent value for this Sauvignon Blanc from the Touraine. Clos Du Bois Calcaire Chardonnay 2014, Russian River Valley, Sonoma County, California, United States: Calcaire refers to the calcareous soils in which these vines are planted and are famous in France. Lots of minerality as a result. The grapes for this Californian Chardonnay were hand harvested, hand-sorted and whole-cluster pressed. Only free-run and soft-pressed juice is used, which is the freshest and best quality juice. The wine was barrel fermented in 60% new French oak barrels before malolactic fermentation and aged sur lie. Buttery-rich and mouth-filling with aromas of ripe peach, pear and apple. Perfect for dinner parties. Pair with grilled chicken. Chardonnay food pairings: oriental chicken salad with yoghurt and citrus dressing, sautéed pork loin, grilled chicken breast. Château D'Argadens 2016, Bordeaux A.C., France: Juicy and lip-smacking tasty with lemongrass acidity on the palate for Thai dishes and grilled lemon chicken. Lovely medium-body yet packed with flavour, but not heavy. Great aperitif. This is a zesty, vibrant Bordeaux white wine blend of 65% Sauvignon Blanc and 35% Semillon grapes produced by Famille Sichel, who also own the esteemed Châteaux Palmer and Angludet. Bright notes of lime zest and racy acidity. Food pairings: smoked whitefish, seafood salads, sautéed scallops in beurre blanc sauce. Joseph Cattin Pinot Blanc 2016, Alsace A.C., France: Fresh and bursting with white peach and Asian pear aromas. Great aperitif. This wine previously won a Gold Medal at the Grand Concours des Vins D’Alsace Colmar. Pinot Blanc is food-friendly, with relatively low alcohol. Pair it with fresh seafood. Great value. Paul Mas Estate Viognier 2016, Nicole Vineyard, Pays D'oc, Midi I.G.P., France: Seductive Old World Viognier with white floral and petrol aromas. Love it. The vines grow in chalk and clay soils on steep hillsides yielding a deep core of minerality in the finished wine. Peach, pear and baking spices on the nose of this full-bodied white wine. Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc 2016, Marlborough, South Island, New Zealand: Winemaker Anthony blends different vineyard parcels of the grapes, like they do in Champagne to create more complexity and interesting flavours. This is the half-bottle size of this wine (375 ml). Finishes with notes of gooseberry and canned peas. Lots of racy acidity for food.
