Quinta De Camarate 2014, Setúbal V.D.P., Portugal: This robust Portuguese red wine is a blend of indigenous grape varieties, including Touriga Nacional, Aragonez and Castelão, all grown on vines planted in the alluvial soils beside the Sado River, where river dolphins frollick. Far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon 2013, Oakville, Napa Valley, California, United States: The Far Niente winery was established back in 1885 and sadly was abandoned during Prohibition in 1919. Sixty years later Beth and Gil Nickel bought the estate and revitalized it. The name translates to a far-away, mythical, magical place. This is a spectacular Californian Cabernet that has a well-deserved cult following among wine lovers. Layers of black plums, blackberry, kirsch and cedar smoke. Smoothly textured with silky tannins and a long, lovely finish. Pair with rare filet mignon. Great gift wine. Cabernet Sauvignon food pairings: bean-based dishes, lamb chops, grilled cheese sandwich, chateaubriand, cheddar cheeses. Drink: 2018 - 2028 539098 14.5% D 750 mL $244.95 Score: 95/100. November 2016. Top Rated Red Wine Full Review Add to Shopping Cart

Gérard Bertrand Grand Terroir La Clape Syrah Carignan Mourvèdre 2013, Midi A.P., France: The grapes for this French red wine blend are planted closer to the Mediterranean sea and therefore there are more spice accents in the finished wine along with red fruits, lavender and pepper. The vines are planted at an altitude of 200 metres above sea level, which preserves their freshness with cool nights. The soils consist of limestone plateau that's thousands of years old. The finish has moorland accents. Pair with rosemary lamb. Although the Languedoc is the world's largest wine region with 235,000 acres, it is not one homogenous mass or style wine-wise. There are actually 5 sub-climates and more than 50 different grapes used in varying blends. Compare that to the 5 grapes used in Bordeaux. There are also 8 different and distinctive winds that blow through the vines here as compared to one in the Rhone, the Mistral. Syrah Carignan Mourvèdre food pairings: rustic stews, meat lover's pizza, hard cheeses. Drink: 2016 - 2019 370262 14% XD 750 mL $18.95 Score: 93/100. November 2016. Best Value Red Wine Full Review Add to Shopping Cart

d'Arenberg Dead Arm Shiraz 2012, Mclaren Vale, South Australia, Australia: The low yielding vines that produce the grapes for this wine are called the dead arm as they look so wizened and ancient. The grapes are picked in small parcels and remain separate until final blending. They're gently crushed then transferred to five tonne headed down open fermenters. Foot trodding happens two thirds of the way through fermentation. The wine is then basket pressed and transferred to a mixture of new and used oak barriques to complete fermentation. The barrel ferments are on the lees to add richness and creamy texture. There is no racking until final blending and no fining or filtration. Dead Arm is a vine disease caused by the fungus Eutypa Lata that randomly affects vineyards all over the world. One half, or an arm of the vines slowly becomes reduced to dead wood. That side of the vine may be lifeless and brittle, but the grapes on the other side display amazing intensity. A savoury, juicy, darkly rich Australian red wine made from Shiraz grapes.
