Reviews and Ratings

Andrew Bernardo rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

This is a perfectly aged Rioja, and I'm enjoying so many of these late releases from Urbina into the Ontario market. The 1999 is still demonstrating ripe fruit, but also brings in those classic tertiary characteristics so typical of Rioja. There's dried cigar tobacco, animal hide, charcuterie, herbs, and scorched earth to go along with the fresh and dried cherry and dark berry fruit. 92 Points.
Christian Marcoux rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Made from 100% Tempranillo, Urbina 1999 Seleccion, from the Rioja region, offers splendid aromas of dried fig, sour cherry, dusty dried leave, leather, cigar box and cedar. This Spaniard impresses with its amazing balance, structure and elegance. Medium bodied with a medium dusty finish, this aged Tempranillo shows what its capable of. On the palate, dried fig, dried blackberry, black pepper, parmesan cheese, cigar box, tobacco and cedar are present. Great wine for its price and very nicely aged. Drink it on its own or with cheese. Enjoy!
From the Rioja wine region, Urbina Seleccion Crianza (1999) is mature. This is an Old World Rioja red with a cherry and dark fruit nose, some oxidation, yes, but you would hardly know this wine is 15 years old. This is the power of Rioja wines. Pair it with a game stew. Drink now and for the next couple of years. - Community Wine Reviews
