From producer, Miguel Torres, Torres Salmos 2015 is a lush and full-bodied red wine from the Priorat wine region. The grapes for Salmos are planted on slopes of shale called "licorella stone." The name of "Salmos" is in honour of the monks of La Cartuja who first planted the vines in the Priorat region. This is a fragrant, spicy wine with velvety tannins, ripe black cherry savoury spice finishing long and satisfying.

Food pairings: endive and ham in Mornay (white) sauce, chicken a la king, tagliatelle with ham.

Reviews and Ratings

Carolyn Hetke rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

This Carignan, Grenache, Syrah blend presents a somewhat rare opportunity for Ontarians to indulge in the powerful wines of the Priorat region of Spain. Priorat is the only other Spanish wine region to share the superior DOCa designation with Rioja. Carignan and Grenache, the signature grapes of Priorat, are grown on those famous slate slopes known as 'licorella'. Old vines struggling to push their roots literally through feet of crumbling slate provide low yields with intense concentration. The Torres Salmos 2015 is showing off its pedigree with lovely, dusty notes of dried cherry, black fruit and hints of chocolate and spice on the nose. All these enticing elements carry to the palate that is velvety, well balanced and beautifully structured. And it all winds up with a lush, lingering finish. Drinking well now but will hold another 3+ years. Enjoy with steak, stew or tenderloin. Tasted February 2020. www.thewineloverskitchen.com
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Intense and brooding! Aromas of dark fruit, anise, leather, smoke and spice. Full bodied with some young tannins, dark berry flavours, and some leathery hints on the finish. This would benefit from a bit of decanting, and would certainly age for 5-7 years. Enjoy with braised beef ribs.
Produced by world renown Torres, the wine grapes for Salmos 2015 are planted on slopes of shale called "licorella stone." in the Priorat wine region. They undergo extreme differences in temperature between night and day. Wine grapes are hand-harvested and the wine is aged for 16 months in French oak barrels. Salmos is a rich and full-bodied Spanish red, elegant with silky layers of fleshy ripe black fruit dark cherries and dark spicy flavours on the palate. Decant for two hours prior to serving or hold in cellar for three years. - Community Wine Reviews
