Natalie's Score: 91/100

Mocha, dark chocolate and espresso on the nose from the enticing oak aging on this Californian red wine. Full-bodied and smooth with lots of layers of fleshy black plums. Try it tonight with grilled pork chops. The Merlot grapes are gently delivered whole-berry to the fermenter, avoiding bitterness while brining out fresh fruit flavours.

Merlot food pairings: grilled meats and poultry, hearty tomato-based pastas, pork chops.

Reviews and Ratings

Craig Kuziemsky rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Notes of plum, cherry and oak. The palate offers some mocha and vanilla. A great wine for BBQ season.
Monique Sosa - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Loads of jammy black fruit, baking spices, milk chocolate and little mocha-esque notes on the flavour and aroma profile. Young yet smooth tannins, nice medium acidity, on the fuller bodied side for a Merlot and long black fruit, cedar and chocolate finish. This would make a great pair with mesquite BBQ.
Cherie Cole rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Rich, dark purple color in the glass. Pleasing aromas of dark plum, cherry, mocha and cinnamon. Full-bodied and smooth, the flavors of dark fruit, caramel, milk chocolate and nutmeg come together to create an enjoyable wine. Tasted on Feb 11, 2016.
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Lots of dark berry and plum aromas, along with mocha and coffee. This wine has 6% Petite Sirah to intensify the dark fruit flavours. On the palate there are lots of plush berry flavours, caramel and warm spice. The wine is full bodied and smooth, with a lengthy finish. This wine would be a great complement to grilled pork or burgers. (April 2016)
Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Lots of juicy red berries, blackberry, vanilla, chocolate and a hint of floral. There is a lift of alcohol that could be a distraction for some. Some dried fruit and ashes come through on the palate. Lingering warm finish. Could be the alcohol or warm spices. The acidity is balanced and tannins polishing. An overall nice weighty California Merlot. Perfect Canadian BBQ wine.
Tasted: March 2015
Sean O'Regan - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Deep ruby, ripe almost raisined fruit on the nose with some prune and mocha. Very ripe on the palate, with sweet cherry, toasty, vanilla and chocolate - almost a hint of being oxidized, but not unpleasant. Acidity is a little lower, giving a rich full mouthfeel, and the tannins have a bit of grip. This should work well with braised and BBQ beef and pork. I'd expect to drink in the shorter term rather than cellar. Tasted April 2015
Produced by Louis M. Martini Winery, the Merlot grapes for this wine are selected for several Californian appellations by winemaker Michael Eddy. - Community Wine Reviews
