Natalie's Score: 89/100

The Chocolate Block is mostly Syrah with some Grenache, Cinsault, Cabernet Sauvignon and Viognier added to the blend. This is a smooth, full-bodied South African red from the Swartland Wine Region. Savoury, ripe with dark berry, cedar spice and smoky flavours on a smooth palate. Tannins are firm. Hold for another year and drink for the next five.

Food pairings: Bobtje, roast chicken Marbella, western BBQ chicken, vegetable chilli.

Reviews and Ratings

Full-bodied, meaty and inviting, The Chocolate Block 2017 is delish with it ripe blackberry, cedar spice, cracked pepper and meaty flavours on the palate. Savoury and satisfying with great structure and acidity for food. Tannins are firm. Decant for one hour prior to pouring with a beef Tomahawk steak. Drink or Hold. - Community Wine Reviews

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a fiesty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
