Black Series

North 42 Estate Winery Black Series Sauvignon Blanc 2017

Lake Erie North Shore, Ontario V.Q.A., Canada

Malcolm scored this wine: 93/100

This was a show stopper, and one of the top Sauvignon Blancs I've tasted in a very long time. And to see it is priced under $15 is unbelievable! Beautiful, balanced, high acid, and fresh, with attractive aromas that don't overpower. Pair with good weather and the patio.

Great wines contain complexity, and at their best give layers of different aromas each time to go back to nose the wine. This wine certainly has all of that! With aromas of candied melon (in a great way), grape, white flowers, and even more notes with time. Pair with tempura shrimp, or cobb salad.

Westcott Vineyards Estate Chardonnay 2017

Vinemount Ridge, Ontario V.Q.A., Canada

I am so thrilled to hear this wine, along with the Westcott Pinot Noir, are offered in boutique wine shops in the U.K., and to see Ontario wines are being credited internationally. A beautiful Chardonnay, with primary (fruit), secondary (winemaking like oak and malo), and perhaps tertiary (butterscotch) aromas. Drink now, or up to 2023

The team at Rosewood is "Following a new direction" or white rabbit, with their minimal intervention approach. This wine is 90% Chardonnay, and 10% Pinot Gris giving body and texture that is delightful. The unique character on the nose is beautiful. *I did not rate this with a score, as I feel it is comparing apples and oranges (or carrots?), but if I were absolutely to score it I would give it 90 points.

Flat Rock Cellars Chardonnay 2017

I would be hard-pressed to find a better quality Chardonnay for this price, or a Chardonnay this good for less than $20. This over-delivers! Great on its own, or try with cedar plank salmon on the BBQ.
