Reviews and Ratings

Andrea Shapiro rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

I had a challenging time getting my nose out of the glass! Loved this - An aromatic evolution! Deeply mauve coloured with an appealing and inviting bouquet - dark plum, blackberry, fresh tobacco, light cocoa and a gorgeous, layered perfume of rose petals with a hint of toasted coconut peek-a-booing in the background. Flavours were as equally engaging with black cherry, prune and sweet smoke heat. Vivacious medium acidity is ideally integrated with a plush medium body and matching smooth tannins. Very well structured and ready to drink now. A very good example of Malbec. This will pair nicely with a Montecristo #1 to accompany the floral notes and aged cheeses. 91 points - team tasting September 16, 2018
Christian Marcoux rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

The 1853 Old Vine Estate, from the well renown region of Mendoza in Argentina, is a splendid wine made with the King of the Argentinian grape - the one and only Malbec. Warm fruity aromas of dark cherry, ripe plum and blackcurrant will hit your nose at first scent, followed by tobacco, bay leaf, vanilla, pepper and oak. Dark in color, this 2014 vintage is made from 100% Malbec. Kenzo Estate is a well known producer in Argentina that makes great quality wine with passion and thoroughness. Taste of dark skin plum, cherry, black tea, dark chocolate, pepper and oak blend in a pleasantly. Full-bodied, the 1853 Old Vines Estate shows balance and a long velvety finish. This is a delectable Malbec, graceful and robust, to enjoy with a leisurely meal.
Greg Hughes rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

This wine is a concentrated offering from Kauzo Estates. It is a typical big, fresh, heavily structured wine from the Uco Valley, in Mendoza.
Dense and deep colouration. Deep purple.
Aromatic and floral, lavender, coffee beans, plum, prune, blackberries.
Flavours of chocolate, gunpowder, black pepper, plum, and loads of black and red berries.
Lynn van der Linde - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Blackberry, eucalyptus and espresso aromas combine into a jammy fruit finish with present tannins. Lovely paired with red meat or hearty pasta dishes.
Tasted Sept 2018.
Lori Kilmartin WSET3 - WSET3 Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

I bought this wine on the recommendation of a friend. I think he's on to something! 100% Malbec from Valle de Uco, Mendoza Argentina - this is a great value wine that comes from a single vineyard planted in 1910. The reference to 1853 is a tribute to the Malbec variety, the most iconic grape in Argentina, planted for the first time in 1853. The bottle itself is classic and the wine dark and opaque. Full bodied and aromatic. Aromas of ripe dark plum and expresso. Soft tannins but evident with balanced acidity. Long fruit finish. Pair with anything bbq'd! Tasted September 16, 2018
1853 Old Vine Estate (2014) Malbec grapes were sourced from select parcels from the Mendoza wine region. Look for ripe dark fruit, forest floor, toasted nut flavours on the palate with a long and lush berry finish. - Community Wine Reviews
