The Thief? Grenache Shiraz Mataro 2015, Barossa Valley, South Australia, Australia: Jammy raspberry and strawberry fruit on the nose and palate of this rich, full-bodied, smooth Australian Shiraz. This is a traditional Australian GSM blend: Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro (aka Mouvedre). Winemaker Tash Mooney says the wine is named in honour of his great grandfather who in the 1840s agreed to mind a cow for a neighbour who was away for several months. The cow died of old age, but the neighbour accused him of theft and subsequently he was excommunicated by the church and buried outside the fence of the Catholic church cemetery. Simply gorgeous! Aromas of black truffle, wild violets and dark, smoky berries. This savoury and juicy Italian red wine with a racy acidity on the palate that's perfect for pasta in tomato sauce, spicy sausages, pizza and lasagna. Aromas of tart black cherry, spices and everything good in a Tuscan kitchen when it's cooking. Great concentration and depth of flavour on the palate. This blockbuster is in serious need of cellar time. A full-bodied red wine featuring aromas of blackberry, black plums, smoky oak and tar. It's fairly smooth, though this will improve with aging. Puklus Pincészet Tokaji Yellow Muscat 2016, Tokaj-Hegyalja, Tokaji P.D.O., Hungary: Beautiful concentration of lemon essence! Here's a dessert wine that's not cloyingly sweet, and will be perfect with lemon or poppy seed cake. Oh yum. Muscat grapes thrive in clay and volcanic soil, which brings out the floral essence in them and the finished wine, especially in dessert styles.
