A rustic, very tannic Spanish red wine with loads of toasty oak and dark chocolate on the nose. Decant 2 hours and pair with brontosaurus burgers.

Mencía food pairings: hearty meat dishes, meatlover's pizza, hard cheeses.

Reviews and Ratings

Casar De Burbia 2014 is a rustic and robust 100% Mencía sourced from the Finca Valdepiñeiro located 400-600 metres above sea level in the Bierzo wine region. Grapes are hand-harvested and fermentation takes place in temperature controlled tanks of 10,000 litres. The wine is then aged eight months in new American oak barrels. Look for ripe, dark fruits, crushed raspberries and great acidity on this savoury red. Pair with grilled game sausage. - Community Wine Reviews

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a fiesty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
