Love this bottle with its woodsy aromas of dried herbs and berries. Black berry and dark red fruit fill things out and the balanced tannins and smoky finish make you want to come back for more. This is going to be my go-to wine come September, or the next time I fire up the barbecue.

The 2010 Jackson Triggs Black Series Meritage, composed of 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Cabernet Franc and 31% Merlot aged in French and American oak for 12 months, is a medium to full bodied, fruity wine with intense aromas of prune, black fruit, black pepper, smoke and vanilla. It has refined tannins (decant for 15 min) and a medium to long finish. Drink now till 2017. Rated at 89 pts and for $13.45 classifies this wine as a good value wine. Tasted July/12.

Bright cherry color with the oink rim. Semi opaque.
On the nose black fruit, black berries, vanilla, cherries, hint of spice, thyme.
On the palate dry with medium tannins, cherries oak, hint of nuts. Medium bodied. medium finish with dark cherries flavor.

Relatively to the price ($14) it's outstanding. On the nose, sweet cassis, blueberries. On the palate, beautiful round silky. Blackberries, blueberries. Will successfuly compete with any other $14 bottle from Ontario and other new world wines.

Blend of cab sauv, cab franc and merlot. Black pepper, cassis, raspberry and dark fruit aromas. Medium-bodied with more raspberry, pepper and herbal notes on the palate. There's also a touch of smokiness. Balanced, structured tannins with enough acidity. Tasted July 2012.

I am a sucker for all things Bordeaux style and blended, but I must admit this palate can be a bit discerning. For this wine, not a problem! Smokey tobacco, peppery notes, a little earth, brought home with bright berry flavours to make you weak in the knees. Think raspberry, cassis... and then think about bringing home some dark chocolate to make an evening of it. Talk about yum and bang for your buck with the value of this wine. I am loving it and have bought a few since my first tasting!

The Jackson Triggs "Meritage" indicates a blend in this case of Cab Sauv, Cab Franc, and Merlot. This is a really a nice and well balanced wine. Hints of both red and black fruit come through and even some gamey notes as the wine sits a bit. A real nice wine at the price point and a versatile food pairing wine.

This Jackson-Triggs Black Series Meritage really is a great wine and is sure to please a crowd. It is a well-balanced medium-bodied, dry red wine, with different layers of flavours including dark berries, plum, and a touch of smoke. This red meritage has the pleasant aromas of red fruit, cocoa, and spice. This wine is a must-try, especially for only $13.95 a bottle.

The nose intrigues, notes of cherry, pepper, almond and burnt wood, I expected velvet on the mouth but got an iron mask as the alcohol content of the 37% Cabernet Franc completely overpowered both the Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot. That was the first glass, then I got wise and decided to show this Meritage some respect and decant. Two hours of breathing and it opened up beautifully to reveal a black fruit driven, caramel creaminess that was much more in keeping with the winemaker's direction I'm sure. Three words of advice on this blend: decant, decant, decant. It's a wine that takes it's time.

Ripe aromas of the vintage abound—black cherry, blueberry and black currant. Floral notes, spice and smoke add depth. Dry, medium-full bodied and flavourful, the ripe dark fruit is underpinned by firm ripe tannins and fine-tuned acidity. There’s an intriguing smoky, earthy note, and tasty hints of cocoa and spice through the finish. Offering good value, this wine will pair with hard cheeses.

Niagara 2010 vintage could possibly be the best of the decade and Jackson-Triggs Black Series Meritage reflects those perfect conditions. With an alcohol per volume of 13.3%, this extra dry, competitively priced ($13.45) wine adheres to the traditional 37/32/31 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot grapes. Aged in both French and American oak barrels, (French generating satiny tannins whilst American providing more creamy, vanilla compounds), this Meritage, with it’s ruby robe, delicious ripe fruit/oaky bouquet and good structure confirms a wine worth buying. However, it is still a touch assertive, and since most wines benefit from a period of quiet in-the-bottle contemplation, I’d give it either another couple of years and/or decant, decant, decant…for several hours.

The Reserve Meritage is a beautifully balanced wine with nuances of chocolate
and spice on the nose. Hints of bold red fruit,plum and oak dominate the palate; solid acidity and firm tannins round out this delightful vintage.
