Note: I publish batches of reviews that I call Good Values Wine Picks. These are from the regular section of the liquor store rather than the Vintages section, and tend to be lower priced and the most widely available of all wines. The last four reviews I did were: May 22, March 7, January 4 and December 16.

Tasting note:

A lovely, medium- to full-bodied red with delicious notes of mocha and black plums. Smooth and blanced. A terrific wine that will appeal to many palates, which makes ideal as a gift or for dinner party. Food matches: Moroccan-spiced rack of lamb.

One hundred percent Merlot. A single vineyard bottling from the upper edge of Hawkes' Red Winery Vineyard, planted in 1973. Showing the vineyard's distinctive cherry tones, along with plum, chocolate, vanilla, and a slight touch of earthiness, making a connection to the Old World and Pomerol. However wine has a lush body and smooth finish that plants it firmly in the New World. Try it with Moroccan-spiced rack of lamb.
