Carpineto Chianti Classico D.O.C.G. from the historic town of Dudda within Greve in Chianti is a medium-plus-bodied Sangiovese-led red that Caterina Sacchet and Antonio Michael Zaccheo are carrying into a second generation with as much ambition as their fathers brought in 1967. On the nose it's earthy and inviting, with tart pomegranate, dried mushroom, a thread of tobacco leaf, and warm oak spice. The palate is dense and focused, with crushed blackcurrant, iron-tinged earth, dried thyme, and a long, chalky finish with firm, well-integrated tannins. Giovanni Carlo Sacchet and Antonio Mario Zaccheo co-founded Carpineto with the goal of making the best Chianti Classico the terroir could offer, and in 1994 Giancarlo Sacchet became the first Italian ever to win the IWSC Best Winemaker in the World. Drink it now through 2030 with linguini marinara, where the wine's bright acidity cuts through the tomato beautifully, or try it with slow-braised lamb shanks in garlic and tomato for a Tuscan Sunday match.

Chianti Classico food pairings: linguini marinara, slow-braised lamb shanks with tomato and garlic, tomato garlic and clam sauce over penne.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
