Full-bodied, smooth and elegant with Old World restraint. Not fruit forward. More structure and earthy notes than big berry flavours. Decant 1 hour and enjoy with a rare steak.

Cabernet Sauvignon food pairings: roast beef with root vegetables, baron of beef with red wine sauce and scalloped potatoes, flat iron steak on the bbq.

Reviews and Ratings

Jon Steeves - Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Fantastic depth, elegant, full bodied, super dry. Chalky minerality, ripe blackberry, currant, baking spices. Pairs well with braised beef, or a bbq steak. A complex wine which is drinking well and accessibly priced. Tasted 2015 vintage in Oct 2018 after 2h decant. 92 points
From Livermore Valley, San Francisco Bay, California Wente's Charles Wetmore 2015 is a full-bodied and elegant single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon with some Petit Verdot, Petit Sirah and Malbec in the mix. This robust Californian Cabernet was matured for 20 months in new French oak, American and Slovenian oak barrels. Look for more smoked meat, leather, tobacco than fruit; although there are ripe dark fruits and spicy flavours on the palate. Tannins are soft. Enjoy now with a roast goose dinner. - Community Wine Reviews
