A smoky, fresh cherry-berry Californian Pinot Noir with silky texture and a pleasing medium-bodied weight. Just enough acidity to make this wine very versatile with food from planked salmon to roast chicken. Some fresh berry and spices on the finish. Partners Gary Hartley and Frank Ostini (Hartley-Ostini), a fisherman and chef respectively, have been producing wine since 1979. They characterize their Pinot Noirs as soulful due to the cool maritime climate that moderates temperatures. You can also taste their wines at the Hitching Post restaurant featured in the movie Sideways.

Monique Sosa - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Yes, this wine is named after the restaurant in Sideways! It's a rustic blissfull cran-cherry Pinot Noir with lovely floral, red cherry and earthy underbrush aromas. The palate is mouthwatering with clean cherry and cranberry flavours, silky smooth tannins and a long scrumptious finish. Enjoy with chicken enchiladas. Jon Steeves - Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Beautiful, silky yet firm, well structured, balanced, medium tannins, medium red cranberry, cherry, savoury, tart. Great acidity, food-friendly. Pairs well with rack of lamb, or veal harissa stew. Tasted 2014 in August 2017. BespokeTastings 91 points
Craig Kuziemsky rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Always enjoyable to review the Sideways wine. Raspberry and cherry aromas and flavors with some earth and herb notes on the palate. Paired beautifully with Coq Au vin.
Wineboy rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

I think Hitching Post has reigned in the amount of oak this used in the 2014 compared to other years. It's there but takes a less dominant role with it's spice and pepper characteristics. A light and bright cherry Pinot, with some earthy elements appearing late on the palate. A bit more time will make these earthy notes more prominent and make the crispness more integrated. 2-4 years.
Hitching Post's Hometown (2014) is a fresh, silky and food-friendly Pinot Noir from Santa Barbara County in California. Hitching Post owner and chef Frank Ostini and his good friend Gray Hartley started making Hitching Post wines in 1979. The Pinot Noir grapes for Hometown (2014) are sourced from the Los Alamos, Santa Maria and the Santa Rita Hills wine regions. - Community Wine Reviews
