A towering wine of heroic proportions in its structure, depth, concentration and richness. Layers of black fruit, dark spice and smoke. Some underbrush and garrigue along with black pepper on the finish. Decant 2 hours and pair with rare filet mignon.

Reviews and Ratings

Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 94/100 with the following review:

I rarely give 94 pts., but this Châteauneuf-Du-Pape, Rhône A.C. blend of Grenache, Mourvedre, Syrah & Cinsault was outstanding for me. Richly aromatic with dark berries and garrique, flowing into a multi-faceted palate giving layers of ripe red and dark fruit, garrique, earth, dark chocolate, mocha and oak in a mouth-watering, silky mouthfeel and lingering elegant finish that ends on a dark chocolate note. Fantastic gift wine or for a special occasion. This one goes on my birthday list!
Tasted Feb. 2017
Chateau la Nerthe is one of the most histories wineries in the Châteauneuf-di-Pape region, and the estate vineyards are planted with all 13 varieties allowed in the grape blend for this robust Rhone red wine. This wine is almost opaque in colour: a dense and Saturday dark red-black. Lots of oak spice and smoke balanced by richly flavoured fruit, dried herbs and dark spices. The grapes in this wine are all old vine fruit. - Community Wine Reviews
