A benchmark Italian red wine blend with big, black-fruited smoky aromas and layers of full-bodied texture. Ripe blackberry on the mid-palate with some hints of liquorice. Great minerality, length and depth. Finishes with pencil led, and dried tobacco leaves. Tannins are firm but will smooth with time. Decant 102 hours and enjoy with rare steak. Terrific cellar keeper. Food Match: Herbed roasted Rack of Lamb with fingerling potatoes.

Reviews and Ratings

Carolyn Hetke rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

The 2015 vintage is 64% Merlot, 17% Cab Sauv, 10% Cab Franc and 9% Petit Verdot. It was still rather closed after 2 hours of decanting. Initially the nose was a bit vegetative with a petrol aspect. After a couple more hours it opened up to roses, violets and raspberries. A very clean, complex wine to be sure. Tannins are still firm. (Tasted December 2017)
Le Serre Nuove Dell'ornellaia (2015) is made from a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot wine grapes from the Tuscany wine region. The wine is big, dark, full-bodied, smoky with an incredible dark fruit, dried tobacco and spicy long length. Could easily cellar for five more years and if drinking now, decant two hours prior to serving with a hunk of beef grilled rare. - Community Wine Reviews
