Black as pitch on the nose (aromas), palate (flavours) and hue. Charry, tarry notes with blackened fruit and loads of oak. Layers of black fruit, dark spice and smoke. Some underbrush and garrigue along with black pepper on the finish. Decant 2 hours and pair with rare filet mignon

Reviews and Ratings

Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 94/100 with the following review:

From one of the oldest producers in Chateauneuf-Du-Pape, where wine has been crafted since 1561. An exciting, intensely fruity red wine with spicy aromas. The satiny palate reveals layers of dark fruit, cassis, vanilla, garrique and slight smoke, elegantly balanced with excellent structure and a rich spicy finish. A fantastic gift wine, guaranteed to please! Pair with prime rib or rack of lamb and savour this slowly.

Rebecca Meir-Liebman - Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

I am always excited tasting Chateau La Nerth wines as the quality is always there even in more difficult vintages. I have tasted better vintages from them but this is still of good quality. The chateau is one of the oldest producers in CDP - it's been in existence since 1561! Appealing black and red fruit flavours, soft tannins and oak aging notes as vanilla, wood and licorice. Still young on the palate - I’d recommend waiting for another 5 to 10 years to get the most of it.
Wineboy rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

My score is harsher than others in Natalie's community - could there be bottle variations as an explanation? Any way, I found it quite restrained both on the nose and on the palate and not up to La Nerthe typical quality. You be the judge.
Chateau la Nerthe (2014) is a flavoursome and full-bodied Chateauneuf-du-Pape with layers of liquid cherries, licorice, vanilla, smoke and finishing with spicy cracked pepper. So lush and full in the mouth. Very pleasurable. Decant for two hours prior to serving with a venison roast. - Community Wine Reviews
