From Carreau, Château La Croix St-Pierre Grande Reserve 2016 is excellent value under $20. A dry, full-bodied 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Malbec red wine blend, textured with layers of dark fruits, plum, blackberry, anise, cinnamon spice and firm tannins concentrated on the palate. Good now, better in 2022.

Reviews and Ratings

Christian Marcoux rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Located on the right bank of the Gironde river, in the region of Blaye Cotes de Bordeaux, Chateau La Croix St-Pierre provides a classic wine that is typical of this terroir. The 2016 Grande Reserve shows aromas of red currant, raspberry, menthol, wet gravel, minerality, dill, allspice and cedar. Made from 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Malbec, the wine reveals a warm body, polished tannins and a seductive balance. This magnific blend will charm with its long fruity finish. Flavors of red plum, red cherry, bay leaf, new leather, dill, baking spices and cedar. Enjoy!
From the Côtes De Bordeaux - Blaye wine region, Château La Croix St-Pierre Grande Reserve 2016 is a medium-plus-bodied 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Malbec red wine blend. Look for ripe dark fruit, blackberry and dark plum flavours on this spicy and intense red from Bordeaux. Tannins are quite firm and I would cellar it for two more years for the wine to begin to show its full potential. - Community Wine Reviews
