This is an absolute treat of a wine. The SAQ describes it as being aromatic and supple , aromatic yes well rounded yes but supple! I so disagree, this wine has character and personality. This is a wine that you could enjoy without food at the end of an evening but it has punch! maybe their sommelier was feeling a little off that day!

All of that said and done I love this wine, it has so much going on for it and would lend itself to an array of dishes, cheeses for sure but even more so those meat dishes that are strong in flavour like venison, caribou and bison.

The colour of this wine is rich and dark purple like those small damson plums or casis.

On the nose this is a powerful bouquet. Animal notes, wild black fruit, herbal tones and ever so slightly some caramel undertones once the wine has opened up a little..give it about an hour.

On the palate, wild black fruit, blackberries, tart cherries, cranberries black currants and orange peel. Strong herbal tones of rosemary and thyme. Licorice comes forward and notes of mocha. There are firm tannins with a great finish. Yum!

I give this a 93
