Burrowing Owl's Athene is a rich, full-bodied red wine blend of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon lushly layered with blackberry, black currant, meaty and savoury with toasty oak spice and well-integrated oak tannins, finishing long and satisfying on the palate. The Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon wine grapes were hand-harvested from Burrowing Owl’s Vineyard on Black Sage Bench. Wine grapes were co-fermented to better marry the flavours. The wine was aged for 18 months in some new and previous-use French and Hungarian oak barrels. Enjoy with herb encrusted leg of lamb.

This Syrah/Cabernet Sauvignon blend has lifted notes of black fruit that carry to the palate. Silky, smooth and beautifully integrated. It is rich and thoroughly enjoyable through the long finish. Serve with Beef Wellington. Drink or hold. Tasted February 2020. www.thewineloverskitchen.com
Linda Mertes WSET 2 rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

A full-bodied Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon blend from Okanagan Valley, this wine presents with concentrated plum and black fruit aromas that persist through the palate. The tannins are medium to high so decanting or ageing is recommended. The finish is medium, warm and spicy. Tasted February 2020.
