Mocha-dark chocolate on the nose and palate. Full-bodied, with a firm tannic grip on the palate and lots of mouth-watering acidity. Decant for 1-2 hours. Pair with hearty meat dishes like a coffee-rubbed grilled chicken or steak.

Reviews and Ratings

Craig Kuziemsky rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Aromas of raspberry and cherry. The palate adds strawberries, vanilla, herbs and some raisin.
Douglas McMillan rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Tart dark cherry and mocha liqueur aromas up front with tastes of blackberry, dark cherry, pepper, and dark chocolate. The tannins and acidity remind you that this is a wine rather than a liqueur. Wow. This would be a fantastic wine for after dinner, sitting in front of the fire, or with juicy rare red meats like prime rib.
Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

A blend of 83% Malbec, 17% Cab Sauv with an aromatic Damson plum nose. The palate shows jammy Damson plum, baking spice, vanilla and oak. Full-bodied, smooth, harmonious and well-balanced with a long plum finish.
Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

A Corvina dominated blend from Veneto region of Northern Italy. Juicy strawberry, raspberry and cherry, floral, vanilla, raisin, dried herbs with a touch of eucalyptus on the back. The tannins are drying and acidity medium+. A pleasing finish of tart cherry and leather. Serve with finer cuts of beef, mature cheeses or dark chocolate. Decant 1-2 hours.
Tasted: March 2015
Jon Steeves - Sommelier rated this wine as 85/100 with the following review:

The 2012 vintage of Feudi San Pio Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore is 14.0% ABV and ruby red. This Italian gem shows red berries, sour cherries on the nose with bitter dark chocolate, fresh plum and blackberry on the palate. Mouthwatering, full-bodied, high acidity, medium plus tannins, this is a great red for pairing with high acidity Italian foods such as spaghetti bolognese. Ready to drink now.
This Italian red wine is made using the Ripasso method, first popularized by Amarone. Pair with spaghetti and meat balls. - Community Wine Reviews
