Natalie's Score: 89/100 Savoury and juicy with attractive sour cherry notes. Supple and smooth and full-bodied. There's a lot to love in this wine. Racy acidity means this wine will dance with tomato sauce dishes, including pasta.
Chianti food pairings: pastas with mushroom sauce, aromatized white meat, roast lamb, or half-mature cheese.

Reviews and Ratings
Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review: When you're looking for a sure crowd-pleaser, this easy-going Tuscan Chianti is the one to grab. Sweet cherry, vanilla and slight violet aromatics lead to a juicy fruit-driven palate that balances acidity with bright berry flavour and mocha nuances. Very food-friendly, perfect with savoury antipasti. Excellent value, best to grab 2 or 3 bottles. Tasted March 2017
Douglas McMillan rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review: Medium-light garnet with aromas of cherries, violets, and a little smoke and vanilla. The taste follows the aromas quite nicely, with medium-high acidity and just a touch of fine tannins. Medium bodied and very flexible for food pairings; tomato pasta, pork, roast chicken, cheese, etc. It's hard to beat Italian wines for food friendliness, and this is a great example at a great price.
Mymi Thesingingsommelier - Sommelier, FWS rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review: The Castello di Gabbiano estate is located in the heart of the Chianti Classico region in Tuscany. The historical “castello” dates back from the 12th century but has been restored into a spectacular hotel which includes its own restaurant, a swimming pool, as well as the winery itself and over 100 hectares of vines and olive groves. All the wine-making work is done on the premises so guests also witness the whole process from picking grapes to bottling. This Chianti is made from 90% Sangiovese and blended with Merlot as well as other indigenous grapes. Sugar levels in the Chianti appellation have recently been raised by almost half what they were obligated to be by law so if you are looking for an introduction into this wine-style, or you are a white wine drinker wanting to expand your horizons, this might be the ideal wine to start with. Light ruby in the glass and reminiscent of a Beaujolais Nouveau on the nose with loads of red berry fruit, vanilla yogurt fruit candy and violets. Friendly, fresh and juicy on the palate with just the right balance between fruit and dryness.
Jon Steeves - Sommelier rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review: Tart and tannic, medium bodied with tart cherry, savoury herb. Pair with tomato based pasta dishes. Tasted April 2017. 87 points.
