Reviews and Ratings

Martha Kelly AIWS - CS rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

This Rioja has flavours of ripe strawberry, sweet and pungent spices, and is starting to develop an earthy complexity. The firm tannins and refreshing acidity make this wine perfect for pairing with grilled meats and strong cheeses.
Drink now or cellar until 2020.
Date tasted: November 2014.
Astrid Young - Sommelier ISG CAPS rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Cedar and stewed prune off the top, with savory nuances of grilled meat and a hint of the smoke it was cooked in. Ripe red cherries as well as dried cherry and tart cranberry. Racy acidty carries a savory cedar note through the finish. Great with a steak or a burger any day of the week.
Douglas McMillan rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

old leather, cigar box, vanilla, cedar, black plum, and earth aromas. This one is all about the oak. The fruit in the taste is also subdued, with good acidity and some firm tannins. This one might be even better if decanted for an hour or so.
Lynn van der Linde - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

This Rioja has heady aromas of leather, eucalyptus, and bourbon. Firm tannins and balanced acidity help carry the dark berry flavours into a long finish. Perfect barbecue wine!
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Aromas of dried fruit, raisin, a bit jammy too, with undertones of oak. Ripe red fruit on the palate, with a bit of tartness and some of oak and smoke coming through as well. Grippy but not overwhelming tannin. Let this decant for a while. Full bodied and a medium finish. A great wine for cheese and charcuterie.
Sean O'Regan - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

Nov 16, 2014: Med ruby, maturing nose, some volatility, wth dark fruit, oak spice, prune/raisin and vanilla. Medium body, plummy, prune, cherry fruit with oak and vanilla notes, fine drying tannins and good acidity. Should pair with hard cheeses and charcuterie.
Terry Jeans - Certified S rated this wine as 86/100 with the following review:

A very interesting nose with leather, raisins, plums, smoke, and licorice, that has a very similar flavours on the palate. A good food wine that would go well rich smokey, rich dishes.
Tom Vigeant reviewed this wine as follows:

Ripe strawberries and blackberries, some notes of oak on the nose. Medium body, supple to firm tannins, well balanced acidity, a little short on the finish.
