Kai

Errázuriz Kai Carmenere 2010

Aconcagua Valley, Chile

Malcolm scored this wine: 96/100

Deep in colour with ruby-purpleish hues. Lovely on the nose, with aromas of spice, oak, and red and dried fruit. This Kai (translated to 'Plant') is a carmenère of exquisite finesse! It further goes to show great complexity, character and balance.. The ingredients for a fantastic wine! This one is not available in market, but would make a wonderful gift for the avid wine lover. (Hint: see SAQ or contact Mike Plume for fair sized private orders) Tasted September 26, 2013

[From memory from last night's Masterclass] Ethereal and a depth of character that perhaps only a 29-year-old Barolo can posses. Complex notes of soya sauce, truffle oil, and teriyaki beckon from the glass, and the wine on the palate is balanced, together, and viscous. A phenomenal experience. Tasted May 12, 2016

Speck Family Reserve

Henry of Pelham Speck Family Reserve Chardonnay 2018

Short Hills Bench, Niagara Escarpment, Ontario V.Q.A., Canada

Malcolm scored this wine: 95/100

What a wine! This wine from Niagara plays the line between ripe fullness in body and flavour, and elegance and fresh acidity (which incidentally gives rise to more flavour complexity) perfectly. This is such a great style, and would suit any Cool Climate Chardonnay lover. ABC - Another bottle of Chardonnay, please!

Strewn Winery Cabernet Franc Icewine 2013

Four Milke Creek, Niagara-On-The-Lake, Ontario V.Q.A., Canada

It has been observed that Icewine ages rather quickly, but I find this 2013 Strewn red Icewine to be evolving beautifully, and may continue to do so for 5-8 years in a good cellar! Still lots of red fruit (strawberry, rhubarb), and a nice tertiary (developing aroma) characteristics of dried leaf, caramel and leather. Bravo Strewn!

Cortina

Seghesio Cortina Zinfandel 2016

Dry Creek Valley, California, United States

Malcolm scored this wine: 94/100

Wow! What a nose!! This is a lovely wine that comes in at 15.3% a.b.v. though you wouldn't be able to tell. The agent tells me this is the wine the WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) uses to benchmark California Zinfandel. Best in show.
