A firm tannic grip on this big Washington state red wine. Cellar a few years then decant 2 hours and pair with a rare steak. Aromas of black fruit and toasty oak.

Cabernet Sauvignon food pairings: prime rib roast, gourmet hamburgers, Salisbury steak.

Reviews and Ratings

Daniel O'Keefe rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Deep shade of ruby red. Bright and ripe cherry and red currant accented by menthol and eucalyptus. Big tannins, structure and grip, with firm acidity. Pleasant oak doesn't overshadow ripe fruit flavours of black cherry, blueberry, and plum, but rather complements them with burnt earth and oak spice. Decant or cellar another one to two years. Perfect for a rack of lamb with rosemary, slow cooker beef and vegetables, or blue cheese.
Alana L rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Today’s vacation pick, this dark wine followed a sprightly Washington Riesling on a rainy and cold coastal afternoon, bringing warmth and earthiness.

Notes of herbs and black fruit on the nose, a well balanced palate, medium bodied, good length and firm tannins.

Wine Spectator describes it as ‘dark and spirited’ (and rated it 90 points) - an apt description! Paired nicely with a rustic crab, lobster and aged cheddar dip; grilled shrimp ceasar salad and charcuterie board.
Andrew Bernardo rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

A gorgeous wine featuring blackberry, cassis, fresh herbs, glycerine, plum compote, Kenya AA coffee and milk chocolate. It's serious and a perfect pairing with a seared piece of beef. Avoid the grill with this wine if you can. 90 Points.
Carolyn Hetke rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Solid garnet colour. Subtle nose, subtle palate. Tannins are still very much in evidence. Should open up more with time.Tasted April 2019.
Produced by Charles Smith, Wines of Substance 2016 is a deep and richly layered Cabernet Sauvignon from wine grapes sourced from the Columbia Valley, Washington. The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon was vinified in tank before being pressed to barrel, ageing 13 months in barrel. Look for ripe black and blueberry fruits with earthy florals and savoury spice on this vibrant, full-bodied red. Drink now and for the next five years. - Community Wine Reviews
