Burrowing Owl Estate Winery Athene 2009
Note: I publish batches of reviews that I call Good Values Wine Picks. These are from the regular section of the liquor store rather than the Vintages section, and tend to be lower priced and the most widely available of all wines. The last four reviews I did were: March 7, January 4, December 16 and November 20.

Opinions about wine differ greatly as the experience is subjective. You may find it helpful to compare this critical evaluation of the wine with mine as well as your own:
 | 52% Syrah / 48% Cabernet Sauvignon A deep, dark, brooding wine, this blend of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon captures the best of both varieties. The nose is bold and intense with ripe blackberry, plum and cassis supported by vanilla, coffee, chocolate and oak notes. The palate is full with balanced acid and tannin and flavours of pepper, blueberry and clove from the Syrah with the rigid backbone, cassis and pipe tobacco notes of the Cabernet Sauvignon. Together they finish on a long, structured palate that has the intensity to mature for the best part of a decade. |
