The 2011 vintage was a tough one for many regions, including Napa Valley. This stalwart Cabernet Sauvignon still delivers, though the fruit is more restrained than in warmer years. Good balance and lots of acidity for prime rib. Decant 1 hour.

A lovely cabernet sauvignon with notes of blackberries and blueberries and a smooth finish. This wine would pair so well with grilled chicken, marinated in garlic and fresh herbs, thyme and rosemary.

August 17, 2014: Deep ruby, currants, green pepper, light oak/spice. Medium-full body with currant, raspberry, toasty notes but a little green on the finish with some bitter tannins - a reflection of a cooler vintage. Tuck this away for a few years or enjoy with rare steak with green pepper and peppercorn sauce.
