Natalie's Score: 94/100

The 2010 vintage of this spectacular Italian red wine was released in the liquor store last year, and now here comes the 2009, which needed a more time given it's towering tannic structure. It too is a blockbuster and a palate pleaser, with a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot grapes. Great bones, seductive flesh.

Food pairings: pork tenderloin, grilled chicken, autumn hodge-podge.

Reviews and Ratings

Modus is the Super Tuscan flagship wine of the Ruffino winery. Generally, Super Tuscans of this standard are twice the price. Decant 2 hours. - Community Wine Reviews

Ms. MacLean is the disarming Everywoman. She loves wine, loves drinking ... ultimately, it's a winning formula.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a fiesty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
