From Les Chais de Rions, Marquis De Bern 2018 is an amazing value, rich and concentrated 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc Bordeaux blend under $15. Vines average 20 years of age and are grown on the clay-limestone slopes and gravelly soils on the plateau of Entre-deux-Mers. Look for spicy black plum, red berry and toasty oak flavours on this youthful red with bright acidity and pleasantly chewy tannins. The wine was aged six months in oak with a further six months in stainless-steel tank. Pour with veal cutlets in a creamy mushroom sauce.

Food pairings: roast pork tenderloin, grilled chicken, gourmet burgers.

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
