Mocha-rich Californian Merlot with some dark chocolate on the nose. Lots of fleshy ripe purple and black plums on the palate. Full-bodied and smooth. This wine was aged for a year in oak, and offers plush depths of flavour. Perfect for potluck gatherings. This full-bodied red wine pairs well with lamb.

Merlot food pairings: roast pork tenderloin, coq au vin, lamb.

Reviews and Ratings

Darlene Myers - CAPS Student rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Loving Merlot the way I do, and loving the J. Lohr family of wines, I was surprised I hadn't tried this wine earlier. It's 84% Merlot with Malbec and Petite Verdot added, and it will not disappoint. The addition of Malbec adds to the fruit, and if you have not heard of the Petite Verdot grape, here's a little info. It was offered in Bordeaux blends but ripened so late in France, it fell out of favor. It ripens much better in the heat of California and adds flavor, tannins and structure. Gorgeous rich plump fruits and hints of cedar and cocoa had me shaking my head as to why I hadn’t tried this wine before. I will definitely have it again.
The name of this robust Californian red wine -- Los Osos -- refers to the type of soil in which the vines are planted which was created in glacial till, volcanic ash and volcanic rock called andesite. The wine is matured for 1 year in oak barrels. Polished tannins. - Community Wine Reviews
